scoodidabop Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 It looks like there's existing xml files for subcategories under MAME but how do I set up my wheel to take advantage of this sorting method? With over 3500 active MAME titles on one wheel it would be great to have them split into subgenres for easier navigation. I tried searching for a solution on the forum but the only things I could find were a bit antiquated. Thanks!
marxkemp Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Export an filtered xml database with dons hypertools into your mama database directory. Also create an genre.xml that contains the name of your created xml
scoodidabop Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 With the Hyperspin that I downloaded there are already a few dozen of these assorted genre xml files in the MAME database folder. Maybe I can use these? Once the proper xml files are in place (be it the existing ones or new ones that I generate) how do I implement them onto my hyperspin wheel?
Mambomortal Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 modify the genre.xml file. You can open it with notepad.
scoodidabop Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 I have exisiting different genre xmls (fighting games, maze games etc...) and here's my existing Genre.XML (partial) <menu> <game name="All Games"/> <game name="Action Games"/> <game name="Ball & Paddle Games"/> <game name="Baseball Games"/> <game name="Basketball Games"/> <game name="Beat-'Em-Up Games"/> <game name="Biking Games"/> <game name="Bowling Games"/> <game name="Boxing Games"/> <game name="Breakout Games" /> <game name="Casino Games"/> <game name="Climbing Games"/> <game name="Compilation Games"/> <game name="Driving Games"/> <game name="Fighter Games"/> <game name="Fishing Games"/> <game name="Flying Games"/> <game name="Football Games" /> <game name="Golf Games" /> <game name="Gun Games" /> <game name="Handball Games" /> <game name="Hockey Games" /> <game name="Horse Racing Games" /> <game name="Maze Games" /> etc.... So the XML files seem to be in place. Now what?
scoodidabop Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Of course. For all my fellow idiots out there that couldn't figure this out - the "genre" button is set up in hyperHQ. When pressed it will show the available genres based on the genre.xml file. I'm a dope, and this was easy. Thanks for your help fellas!
