Odd problem with Xbox 360 gamepads in Mame

Hi guys, my setup has been flawless for about 2 years when I fired up Mame and none of my xbox 360 gamepads are working ( They work in the Hyperspin Menus as well as all the other Emulators ) I closed out Hyperspin and started MAME up on its own and all my controllers work fine, Custom cfg for them is being used. Reload Hyperspin and same problem, I hit Tab on my keyboard and I can configure each game for the controllers and it will save the settings. This is very problematic due to how many games I have and some of the custom configurations aren't saving propely. What could cause Hyperspin to not load my MAME controller config properly when it loads fine outside of Hyperspin..... Im stumped, thanks guys.
