The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

hyperspin not ending its process exe/Vsync making hyperspin lag

EDIT- End process is solved, but still trying to figure out why Vsync works fine in MAME but lags horribly when launching from hyperspin.(refer to the two attached videos)

Hey guys

Having a strange issue with hyper spin lagging and not ending its process when closed.

So i just turned on my computer and decided to test Vsync and HLSL in MAME one last time.

Runs all games at 100% in just MAME with both vsyn and hlsl. And runs all games at 100% with ONLY HLSL on. Vsync seems to either push my PC limits or there is a bug in hyper spin.

Lets use UMK3 as an example for a test. It Runs 100% with Vsync and HLSL on in just MAME.

Boot up hyperspin and the same game lags at 55%.

Now here is where it gets interesting, going back to just MAME it lagged at 55%!!! When it was just working a second ago.

I open up my task manager and it says Hyperspin is running as a process still at 120,000 KB!!

I end the task, boot MAME back up and it runs fine now again!!

I opened hyperspin again and same thing lags at 55%. I then try MAME again and now its running totally fine at 100%.

So i Check my task manager again and this time no hyperspin process is running.

So something is causing hyperspin to stay open even after i exit out of it. But not everytime, only sporadicaly which is why i keep getting all different results.

Also i guess it really must just be a hardware issue then or a hyperspin bug since MAME works totally fine, but hyperspin does not. I wonder if it's my ram only being 4gb? with nothing open but the desktop i am using about 1gb of RAM.

Could Hyperspin, MAME, and its filters be eating up that other 3GB?

Thanks a bunch

I've had Hyperspin process still running after exiting, the odd time, i don't seem to have any lag though, but i have 16gig ram, also AMD 8350 CPU, i thought it was a problem with my system, as i'm only building hyperspin on here to go into a cab.

Yeah honestly everything runs great until i turn Vsync on. So it's either a bug in hyperspin since every other program works fine at 100% with vsync on and HLSL. Or it's my system specs not being able to run everything at once. I hear hyperspin is a resource hog, and that vsync and HLSL are pretty demanding as well, but am not sure what exactly that means performance wise. From what i read 4gb of ram should be plenty to run hyperspin and Mame, but it doesnt mention anything about HLSL and Vsync, so I am wondering if having HLSL and vsync on is using up a ton of RAM bottlenecking things.

Windows already uses 1GB right off the top, so i am working with 3GB's basically.

configure panic button, also use task manager to end the process thread.

Yeah i can end the task no problem, and that problem only happens every so often.

I am just wondering why i get so much lag with Vsync turned on when running hyperspin. Vsync works totally fine with MAME and HyperlaunchHQ. Whatever is going on with hyperspin is making it lag.

I have a RAM stick on the way, we will see if 8gb makes this problem disappear. If it does then i know it's just a spec issue.

Otherwise you can run a batch file at the close to task kill hyperspin.exe as an option. Hyperhq has a run on exit field for this.

I have 4gb ram btw. Does it for me once in a great while. More noticeable if entering and exiting repeatedly.

Yeah the thread still running after exit isn't really the big issue though. That would fix that problem, and i appreciate the advice, i will make a batch process to fix it.

But that wouldn't help or explain why my games are lagging when using hyperspin with vsync turned on. That is the issue that is really sinking me at this point as i would really like to use v sync to alleviate screen tearing.

It works fine in MAME alone, but using hyperspin it lags like crazy.

Sorry don't use hlsl so I am no use there. :(
