Dolphin + Hyperspin/launch

Hi all, really hoping someone can offer some advice here..

Overview:

Having lots of spare PC parts around, my son & i decided to try and turn some use out them and see if we could build an EMU-PC from the "scrap-pile".. Not knowing much about it we are currently following Simply Austin's Youtube guide for idiots (perfect for us =p, can't recormend his vids enough, so helpful!) but have ran into an issue we've been unable to solve..

Issue:

We have just installed, Setup & configured Dolphin (supplied by Simply Austin) its Build: 4.0-6068

Got hold of 4 iso's, 2 for Gamecube and 2 for Wii to test

At Desktop > Run Dolphin > Pointed to game > works! > Esc out > back to desktop - Perfect!

We have also followed Simply Austin's steps to setup the consoles in HyperlaunchHQ and all is good.

In HyperlaunchHQ > Scan for games > Finds 2 > Select 1 to launch > Loads game > Esc out > Black Screen!!

We have tried it with both Gamecube and Wii and the results are the same, Direct through Dolphin = Perfect, Through HyperlaunchHQ or Hyperspin, exit = Black screen!!

Notes:

I have also noticed that when Dolphin exits the game, it simply exits back to the dolphin console, but in HyperlaunchHQ, when we do the same action to exit i noticed the screen looses signal for a second as if the resolution is being changed or trying to change just prior to being stuck at Black screen.

Our Current Setup:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ @2.23

4GB Ram

Nvidia Geforce 9800GT

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

Hyperspin V1.3.3

Hyperlaunch V1.1.1.4

Dolphin V4.0-6068

For Dolphin Settings - See

@11:30

I'm convinced its a resolution error/conflict somewhere as when launched through HyperlaunchHQ, the game-screen doesnt seem the same resolution as when launched directly through dolphin as a standalone.. & also the screen loosing signal for a brief second on exit showing hyperlaunch is trying to change the reolution. I have tested this with Dolphin set to Windowed mode & Fullscreen but the HyperlaunchHQ results are the same..

PLEASE HELP US!!

Ok first thing first, fault find.....

Turn off fade and bezels to see if there is any pop ups or messages being hidden.

If not take a resolution approach. Easiest way is to switch rendering from DirectX to OpenGL.

If all else fails or your feeling like you want more speed. Hers another version. Watch the vid, you will have to configure it, but it's more info for you.....

Update:

Simply Austin > Turn off fade and bezels to see if there is any pop ups or messages being hidden.
All turned off, no hidden messages. Task Manager reports 2 Dolphin windows open and both "not responding" 1=Emulator & 1=Game

Simply Austin > Take a resolution approach. Easiest way is to switch rendering from DirectX to OpenGL.
OpenGL Selected, Load game = Black Screen, no sound followed by a windows error message:
"Dolphin.exe has stopped working, a problem has caused the program to stop working properly and windows will close the program"

Simply Austin > Watch the vid, you will have to configure it, but it's more info for you..
All setup as per/video, run a game = black screen, after a few seconds i here sound but no display..

Following these steps has led me to think it might be a graphical error (almost seems like OpenGL wont start) so we tried some different version drivers..
Following the correct steps to perform a CLEAN install heres the results we got:
Nvidia v185.85 = Same result
Nvidia v295.73 = Same result (known most stable for 9800GT - Installed)
Nvidia v306.23 = OpenGL Setting Works in Ishiiruka & HyperlaunchHQ/Hyperspin exits the game perfectly.
Nvidia v332.21 = OpenGL Setting Works in Ishiiruka & HyperlaunchHQ/Hyperspin exits the game perfectly.
Nvidia v341.44 = OpenGL Setting Works in Ishiiruka & HyperlaunchHQ/Hyperspin blinks followed by an error saying the Nvidia driver has stopped working.(latest)

Note to anyone else using an Nvidia 9800GT - Use drivers v306.23 or v332.21 - 100% working!
Note to Simply Austin - Thank you for your help & advice & for taking the time to make your "How to" vids i know my son n i would be lost without you.. Thanks again!

No problem at all mate.  I am glad you got it working but sorry that you had to go through soo much trouble to get it working.

I used to have a 8800GT and I loved it :)  An amazing card and to be honest it still is unless your running at 1080p... then things get serious for the modern games hehe.

Dolphin gets much more performance for some reason from an intel chip.  Are the games running well for you on a AMD chip?  6 months ago, you would be lucky to have a game boot on a CPU like that, they really have stepped it up for the Dolphin Emu lately.  Keep the OGL setting and try the Ashader Cache see if you get better speeds?

Update 2:

Simply Austin > I am glad you got it working but sorry that you had to go through soo much trouble to get it working
Don't be sorry, it's not your fault some people are trying to "polish-a-turd" when it comes to PC specs used!.. lol
My daughters PC (also made up from scrap i had) is running: Intel Q8200 & Evga 510GT :- Seeing as she only uses it for social media, i might swap the MB/CPU/GPU's over  as the Emu-Pc should benefit greatly from it were-as my daughter probably wont notice much/any difference..

Simply Austin > Are the games running well for you on a AMD chip?
Not 100% but considering the age & ability (or lack of) the CPU its holding up well, so far everything upto & inc PS1 =
100% smooth, PSCX2 & Ishiiruka have some speed-of-play issues feels like they run at about 75% speed due to the single core CPU being overloaded (to be expected) but as stated above, aim is to get it working then swap out MB/CPU/GPU for an upgrade, build a case n have fun!

Simply Austin > Try the Ashader Cache see if you get better speeds?
Upgraded Driver from v332.21 to v337.88 (shader cache introduced in this build) made the changes : Slighlty better, get some speedups n slow downs depending on how much needs to be rendered.. better than 100% slow downs.. =)) Thanks for the tip!

on the Ishiiruka build itself, once you select OpenGL you should thne have another tick box activated in it called AShader, that basically tells the Emu to chache all of the shaders before the game starts.  It causes less slow down during the game but makes the loading time at the start longer.

A good budget CPU is the Pentium Anniversary Edition seen HERE

It can be overclocked to 4.5ghz as stable, which as no emulation requires more than 2 cores will get you the same results as a top of the range i7 for a fraction of the price ;)

Well happy gaming mate.  If ever you need anything give me a shout!

in Ishiiruka when i select OpenGL, the options i get are:

Fullscreen reso <auto>

Aspect Ratio <auto>

V Sync [ ]

Use Fullscreen [x]

Show Fps [ ]

Keep window on top [ ]

Render to Main [ ]

Auto adjust window size [ ]

Hide Mouse [x]

Thats it..

The Q8200 can be overclocked to 3.82ghz (stable) and its free as its upstairs!..  winner!

Well.. now that you ask =D wouldnt say no to a wheelart pack for:

ok.. need some advice again..

As mentioned previously i have now swapped over the motherboards and also added another (larger) HDD to store Rom's/ISO's on.

As the roms have moved location i have gone into HayperlaunchHQ and HyperHQ to adjust the Rom locations and then procceeded to Hyperspin to check it worked ok...

Roms = All work!

But i noticed an error that was not there before, when i go into Sega Genesis i get the header & background for Turbografx16 not Genesis..

Q: any idea what may have caused this & whats the best way to fix it?
