Proper way to update Retroarch

I'm interested in updating Retroarch and wanted to know what is the best way to get it done.  Overwriting or clean install?

I recently used an old version of retroarch and over wrote it with the latest version, not had any issues, to date, so id say which ever way you feel, id suggest a youtube search on retroarch 1.22 too, there are some nice new features =) also why not make 2 mini builds and try both.

I do a clean install and keep both versions just in case. To migrate you "stuff" you can just copy over the cfg files to the new install. I did that a few times over the past few weeks to go from a daily build --> 1.2 --> 1.2.2
