Rotgut Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 How's it goin', guys? So I'm not sure how to solve this but here's what started happening recently. For years, I have had Nestopia running perfectly, on its own and through HyperSpin. I recently upgraded to a fairly good video card and all is well — except with Nestopia. When I run the emulator I get a floating error message on the monitor saying "Optimum Resolution Should Be 1280 x 1020" but I ** am ** running everything in 1280 x 1020, so I don't get it! I can't even force quit out when this happens, I have to do a hard reset on the PC. Some info: 1) I do have the card set at 1280 x 1020, and I also have the computer set to that resolution in the control panel 2) I have a DVI adapter connected to a VGA cable going into the monitor's VGA signal input. I have tried a few things like unplugging the monitor/plugging it back in, etc but I am still getting this error on screen. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Thank you in advance!
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Sounds silly... but you have the card and the emulator set to that resolution too? I have not used nestopia in a long time. I found RA too be much better and even MESS/Now MAME has ovetaken it for its extras too. Simply Austin's YouTube

Of course there are no silly questions! 1) the card is set for 1280 x 1020 as is the computer itself (in the control panel.) 2) The sad thing is, I can't "see" Nestopia to fiddle with resolution settings because my monitor goes black when I start it — and I get the floating "resolution error" message box thingie. Is there a file I can go into to deliberately alter the Nestopia resolution to see if that helps? Is it an ini or xml file, something like that? If so, where is that file and what am I looking for (to alter)?
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I dont have a copy to look at myslef right now, but they often have a .cfg file inside the emulator folder. 90% of the time you can manually set it there. I cant say for certain off top of my head as I dont have a copy here Simply Austin's YouTube

Mess? hee hee I have had trouble getting RetroArch to function. I tried after watching your tutorial (I've watched almost all of them) and I hit a roadblock with regard to — if I recall — getting roms to "appear" or link or whatever. But I will see if I can get Mess to run NES games I suppose.
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Retro Arch is perfect at nes, but mess is good too. If your having trouble with games, it's likely to be the 7z setting. Check the troubleshooting vid, games don't work or show. Give me a shout if any troubles Simply Austin's YouTube
wesfranks Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 You can switch emulators or you could try redownloading nestopia to set it up in a known default state. Might work and get you back in the game faster.
