How to Use Cheats in Retroarch?

I have been looking but not much luck on how to set this up. I am trying to find out where I download a system list of cheat files (if possible), where do I put them and how do I load them in retroarch? Can anyone provide a link or walk me through it please? I would appreciate it.

Hey

So I tried this, I went into the cheat menu, under Genesis, then under the game name ie) Streets of Rage. There is pro replay codes, I enter it and turned on cheats..... but they do not work? Any advice? Do i have to save somehow or re load the game? I hit APPLY cheat too.  I have checked and I have cheat_database_path = ":\cheats" in the retroarch.cfg configuration, all the cheats are in there.. why wont they load? Looks like it is July 19, 2015 verions of retroarch with the fancy new gui that i love.

I just read that the cheats do no work with genesis ? Ill try nes when I get home

Each libretro/core/emulator supports different features. Picodrive (a Genesis emulator) doesn't support cheats in RetroArch but Genesis Plus GX (a different Genesis emulator) does support cheats in RetroArch. Look at the wiki on libretro.com to find out which cores support which features.

Ok I double checked and I do use Genesis Plus and I was loading them correctly. I tried another game and it worked.  Streets of rage cheat must not work?
