Mame controllers issue seen before?

I currently have 2 USB controllers.

Slot1 always is wireless xbox360

Slot2 always steering wheel

I have gone into MAME and in the general settings configured p1 driving games to use the steering wheel.

And where necessary gone into in this game and configured that game to use the steering wheel and pedals. Every thing works great.

Occasionally I launch HS when the wireless controller has disconnected itself forcing the steering wheel to become joystick 1.

Now obviously the games don't respond to the steering wheel as the games are configured to joystick 2. That's fine I thought all I needed to do would be close HS and press the x button and everything would work again....

However I'm then finding that the general game settings and in game settings have changed back to what would be the defaults and are set to use joystick 1 again. So even though I had customised them to use joystick 2 and there is a joystick 2 once again the cfg files are using joystick 1 . I'm having to constantly reconfigure the games.

Has anyone seen this before?

Make the configure file read only. I have had the controls mess up before but that fixes things once u get ur controls in mame working the way u want
