Styphelus Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Is there a Retroarch Mess guide somewhere? In my old setup (from 2014), all I had to do was have the bios files in the Retroarch\System\Mess folder. However that no longer seems to work. Most of my Mess core games are not working at the moment and I've been reading up on stuff on the net but so far no luck with anything. Only the Amstrad GX4000 is working. The Atari systems, Coleco and Intellivision don't work. I'm certain it's because of the folder structure but haven't found any real answers.

I really, really, really would advise just to use MAME/MESS. Performance is soooo much better. And you'll have many less problems with this kind of stuff. You adding an extra layer of abstraction that will only cause problems. Don't get me wrong, RetroArch is great. I use it wherever possible. But I also use MAME directly when that's needed. potts43 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I agree. Tried using RA but when adding bezels through RL my fps dropped to 25 from 60. I moved to MESS and the problems disappeared. I know people now use RA overlays rather than bezels and that reportedly is better in performance. Only thing I never tried was disabling RL bezels for the RA systems and using the RA overlays which work like bezels. However I found I could use hlsl or more recently glsl and loved the effects in MAME and MESS. So to me Win win as RA was a pain to configure keys .
