i3-3220 Bartop? Cooling?

Hi Guys,

I'm starting down the research rabbit hole towards building my first HyperSpin bartop.

While I don't plan to do much with Dolphin up front, I want to make sure the system is capable.

Would you recommend building it with an i3-3220?

What kind of video card? (necessary??)

And would it stay cool enough in a bartop build, using only a CPU fan or aftermarket cooler?

Thanks so much,

Owen

Thanks Circo,

I forgot that AMD has their Trinity series now. I've built all my HTPCs with Llano.

That said, what kind of cooling would you recommend if I'm using A10-6800?

Stock cooler, after market cooler, additional fans?

I feel like one element of this build just fell into place!

Very much appreciated,

Owen

6800 is richland ;)

I use stock cooling and its fine but I dont overclock. I have a 120mm input fan and 80mm exhaust fan in my bartop plus I got a hard drive cage with a fan on it. I just redid my bartop guts and this is what im using

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113331&Tpk=6800k&IsVirtualParent=1

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157357

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144639

Hard Drive Cage - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999141

Power Supply - Silverstone Micro ATX 400w

I got a 4:3 19" touchscreen for it on ebay (made four bartops like this) and its flippin awesome

This is the kit i usually use http://www.mameroom.com/Products_BartopII_Kit.asp

Thanks again, Circo.

I'm currently reading Project Arcade (2nd Edition) and anything and everything else I can find online, but would you mind if I also added you on Skype?

Either way, I really appreciate your help so far

Roger that,

Mind sharing the model touch screen you use -- and the benefits of touchscreen for this kinda project? I could understand it if you're building a Megatouch etc, but for emulation/HyperSpin?

Only benefit I see at first glance is Jukebox...

Also, do you have a 2nd recommend for power/memory?

I can't find any information on the Silverstone PSU and the Newegg describes the memory as Unvailable -- assuming this is discontinued...

i'm very happy with my i3-3225 (unlocked) but for a bar top I'd probably do an A6 or so which would be pretty slick. I compared both before I got the i3 and they intel just barely outdid the A6 but only barely. However, since I have more real-estate in my cabinet, I plan to upgrade to maybe an i5 or i7 down the road when prices drop (a few years?) and 1155 socket mobo will still be perfect to use. that was my selling factor there.. try the A-series tho... great price and damn good performance.

On the touchscreens I have used a few different models. The wells gardner with the glass front is my favorite. Just found one on ebay for $119 http://bit.ly/18y0cNF.

For Jukebox software I use Zenpoint http://www.zenpoint.org/

As far as touchscreen games, its all about the pc games like popcap, casino games, the sky is the limit here. The girls in the house could care less about the arcade panel but the touchscreen gets all kinds of use. As far as the ram and power supply, it doesn't really matter. Just get decent reviewed stuff.
