Arculator - Acorn Archimedes woes...

I had it enabled, but never really tested it out...Maybe it´s because I´m spending all time setting up and never playing enough to get to disk two...:)

I tried it under Pause, seems to be working (Chuck Rock), but got an ahk error at some point. Will investigate further.

By the way, in ye olde Arculator thread,

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/7988-acorn-archimedes-setup/page-3?hl=arculator

someone was complaining that audio was disappearing. I might be experiencing the same thing. Seen that?

My speakers are off... so, erm, no lol

New point... The games with square brackets at the end of the name is messing up loading... need to remove them for it to work...

Posted

Thanks, will try your new ahk mod.

Deleted Gyrinus II. For the ones with copy protection, I think I will keep them in the XML for now, and just deactivate them by removing the

wheel (Wheels only), if I would feel like finding another version some day.

Are you keeping the Demos? What about the ones that you have to open from the floppy? Are you OK with that?

OK. Good find. Will edit XML and test again. This is messy though, made a spreadsheet from the launch test thing to keep track of it all...:)

Managed to work through some of the games that you went through. Many now work with the removal of square brackets

Anything not mentioned works. Up to D... will continue when i get chance!

Archimedes Moria (Europe).adf "Bad File Name CFSModule"

Corruption (Europe) .adf not launching, not sure how to - almost feel the intention of this is to crash stuff. Like a joke
Creepie Crawlie 1 & 2 (Europe).adf Both are on the disk - will need to separate a la omnibus

Yeah, maybe youre right... Keep the copy protection ones...

Demos that work I'm keeping

Ones that have to be opened in keeping. Hoping to find a way around it, but my cab will have a trackball so should be able to get them opened of needed. Obv not ideal tho!

Okay, so here is your list reduced to things i just can't get to work. If it works from the floppy it's not on this list unless you didnt state it before:

Archimedes Moria (Europe).adf "Bad File Name CFSModule"
Blowpipe (Europe) (Disk 1).adf "Please insert disk two" Changing disc doesnt progress
Bubble Fair (Europe).adf "WIMP is currently active", but can be started OK from the floppy
Coconizer (Europe).adf "WIMP is currently active", but can be started OK from the floppy
Colour Umoria (Europe).adf "WIMP is currently active", but can be started OK
Corewars (Europe).adf An app to compare program load speed in a game type way... removing
Corruption (Europe) [b].adf not launching, not sure how to - almost feel the intention of this is to crash stuff. Like a bad joke
Creepie Crawlie 1 & 2 (Europe).adf Both are on the disk - have separated a la omnibus
Fervour (Europe) [b].adf Not actually a folder... just looks like one. Doesnt work. I get a prompt saying "Obey" but crashes. Removing
Gorm (Europe).adf "WIMP is currently active", but can be started OK from the floppy
Guile (Europe).adf "Bad File Name CFSModule"
Hamsters (Europe) (Demo).adf correct cmd is HamsDemo, "WIMP is currently active", but can be started OK from the floppy
Ixion (Europe) (Disk 1).adf "WIMP is currently active", but can be started OK from the floppy
Master Break (Europe).adf launches to a cmd screen - can't get this working
Oddball (Europe).adf "WIMP is currently active", with line error
Poizone (Europe).adf "not found", but can be started OK from the floppy
Punters Predictor, The (Europe).adf "not found", but can be started OK from the floppy
SimCity (Europe).adf "Systems resources can not be found"" Works from Floppy
Simon the Sorcerer (Europe) (Disk 1).adf not launching, but can be started OK, copy protection
Starch (Europe).adf "Line too long"
Stunt Racer (Europe) (Disk 2).adf "not found", where is disk 1? Disk 1 doesnt seem to exist anywhere...
Superior Golf (Europe).adf OK, cmd is Boot - WIMP error when trying to start
Time Zone (Europe).adf loads OK, but just a cursor on screen - FLIGHT SIM FOR ME!
WIMP Game, The (Europe).adf "The WIMP Game can´t cope with that" - wonder if this is intended... i.e. it's a wimp!!
Zool (Europe) (Disk 1).adf launching OK - copy protections

Main thing to do is sort the WIMP errors and the CFG errors. No idea where to start with those...

Managed to solve the Wimp thing in a way by following the instructions on the Module notes to boot without RIscOS. It works but fullscreen just breaks... i'd rather just have to select on the disc

Corewars - deleted

Corruption - supposed to be a "Graphical Adventure"

Fervour - deleted

Simon the Sorcerer - deactivated

Stunt Racer - deleted

WIMP Game - supposed to be a "Point-Click Adventure"

Zool - deactivated

The fullscreen bug reminded me of a problem with some of the older Touhou Project games. Because they were old you had to apply a "dx8 to

dx9 convertor" that fixed the fullscreen. Tried that here, but no go. The funny thing is that it was working for me for a while, as I mentioned earlier,

so it has to be some kind of flaky bug.

Messed around with ArcEm a bit this eve - didnt get very far.

It has a command *wimpmode which allows changing the resolution of the window, but it pretty difficult to get anything else to work.

The command worked in Arculator but crashed it.

Posted

When switching disk, I can change disc, but get:

There was an error waiting for the window "Open ahk class #32770", after about 10 secs.

Bobby Blockhead and MiG-29 Fulcrum were misspelled in the .ini, now auto-launching.

I must have had a temporary problem at some time during the launch test, some more games are

working now, you mentioned some of them.

Posted

Looked a bit at your latest list. I agree, but, Superior Golf is auto-launching and working for me?

Time Zone is working here also now.

The audio issue seems to be that at some point Arculator has started in "Mute mode" for some reason, and then it stays that way.

I´m not sure yet why this occurs, have to test some more.

Edit: When that already happened, with Arculator open, go to Windows audio settings and unmute it there.

I think I have found a solution to the fullscreen issue.

You downloaded Arculator from the web, right?

You put it in a folder, and now you have to set it to compatibility mode for

Windows XP 3. Now it should be working when it comes to the fullscreen issue.

After this you CAN NOT move it again, or rename the folder, or it will stop working again.

You can actually see on the Window bar if this is going to work or not. See attachments.

So I set up an alternate emulator that starts to the command prompt. This should fix games

that didn´t auto-launch with the error "WIMP is currently active", but IRL only fixed Bubble Fair and Colour Umoria, as

HamsDemo, Gorm and Ixion have various other launch problems.

Nice.

I've been having a play... I got hold of a copy of Virtual Acorn - a different, paid emulator...

It's actually quite different in some ways... I mostly was trying to solve the free resize issue, getting bezels working and hiding the menu bar.

It does work for hiding the menu bar, but some of the games are just fixed resolution so can't be rezised for bezel.

Overall it's a bit slower to load and a bit more clunky (partially due to my poor module writing skills i'm sure) I've attached the wonky module i wrote for it if anyone else wants to have a play... it does at least work (untested in fullscreen)

Think i'll head back to Arculator...

I wasn't set to XP mode so will try that with my fullscreen issue!

Are you using the updated multigame code I posted above? I had that error until I updated the module...

Also, had an idea of how to get this ask working with only one copy of the emulator. If you type 'desktop' at the command prompt it launches the OS so that could be added for any games that need the OS.

Alternatively, (and better if I could work it out) there must be a way to quit out, but damned if I can find it!!

I´m using the one in your post #26? But still that error?

Edit: Vaderag: Maybe you could just post your Module if it´s error-free?

Yep

I tweaked it a bit more this morning to try solve some intermittent graphical glitching when switching discs... Attached

Also, bezels gave me that error for a bit too, so make sure they are off... (think you said they were..)

I've solved the need for two copies of Arculator

  • In the module notes is the command to set up a boot straight to command prompt
  • Load Arculator
  • Select operating system to 3 (old)
  • Type the command
  • Reset
  • Reload Arculator and change OS back to 3 (new)
  • For games with the wimp error i.e. Bubble Fair Add the line OperatingSystem=2 to the ini
[Bubble Fair (Europe)]
ExecuteCmd={!}BubleFair
OperatingSystem=2
Posted

I saw that before in the old ini  OperatingSystem=2, wasn´t sure why it was there.

Good stuff, but two emus works for me too.

Hmmm...still that error with your posted ahk. What else can influence it?

I know I´ve postponed updating Rocketlauncher out of fear of breaking something...

I´m on 1.0.0.7...

What version of Arculator are you running diskmach? Usually errors relating to window classes/titles are due to using a different version of the emulator because sometimes those classes/titles change and the module is looking for the wrong one.

Thanks for your answer. It´s Arculator 0.99 and module 1.1. I always check that the version coincides with the module if I have a problem.

Its a fairly generic 'Open' window class, so if you have other windows open at the same time it could (but shouldn't) get confused.

Try flipping it out of fullscreen, do your Change disk and alt tab - see if the window is even opening... Might be stopping before that...

Posted

Looks to me to be the same, changing disk and ahk error after about 10 sec.

But when the error comes up, the "Changing disk" background is still active, could this mean something?

Posted

Yeah, it will be the same, but not being full screen will allow you to see what's going on... when you hit the change disk screen and immediately after you select a disc, alt-tab to see what is open and not...

Posted

Right... believe it or not, i think i'm done...

Last updates...

Archimedes Moria (Europe).adf "Bad File Name CFSModule" - removing - see note below
Blowpipe (Europe) (Disk 1).adf "Please insert disk two" Changing disc doesnt progress - unable to work. Removing
Bubble Fair (Europe).adf Use Command Line Version
Colour Umoria (Europe).adf Use Command Line version
Guile (Europe).adf "Bad File Name CFSModule" - removing - see note below
Hamsters (Europe) (Demo).adf Use Command Line version and boots to taskbar for use
Master Break (Europe).adf Tried All OS's - no dice - Removing as broken
Oddball (Europe).adf USE RISC OS2 - Wierd as hell, mind
Punters Predictor, The (Europe).adf Updated INI to work
Starch (Europe).adf Tried All OS's - no dice - Removing as broken
WIMP Game, The (Europe).adf USE RISC OS2

Note...
This CFS issue really is the last to sort out... but i have no idea how after hours of googling. I give up. They're coming out of my list...
Affected games are Archimedes Moria / Guile / Fervour (possibly)

With that in mind and to help future people, please find a zip attached with my Module edit, INI, and XML
NB. My XML removes anything not working or that requires copy protection...

If anyone works out how to fix the other things, let me know!
Also, i plan to make a nice fade for this... watch this space
