Logics21 Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 difference between games that require chd vs games that dontI noticed Street fighters III (U and J)require Chds and won't load but the Asian version doesn't and i can play itI have a whole mame 0.171 romset but no CHDs.I want to use the mame roms and media for other systems such as atomiswave, cp123 and naomi but some games won't run(also i noticed the xml for capcom play system here uses clones instead of the parent rom )how standard are the xml files here, had to rename a lot of videos wheels and some roms to match the xmlwhat minimun specs do i need to have to make a pc arcade, for this i want to buy a cheap used pc from craiglist, but want my games to run smootly.. I want to run games Mame(all systems that mame runs well), n64, genesis, atomiswave, and taito type , naomi, nes, snes, gb/c/a etc maybe ps1 and dreamcast idk yet the isos take too much memory i'm currently runing it on my laptop and runs fine with i7 4700HQ, geforce gtx 850m and samsung SSD but I believe this games don't require much processing power.
Avar Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 CHDs contain data that, in the case of the physical arcade cabinet or game, would be found on a CD, hard disk, or similar storage. Games that require a CHD require both the ROM and the CHD to go with it. The emulator runs the ROM which then calls the CHD for the additional information required to play the game. This is why CHD files are so large. They're kinda like ISOs. CHDs always come in "merged" sets, meaning that a single CHD will be used to run all of the various versions and clones of a game requiring its presence. The official XMLs are the standard for HyperSpin as well as for some rom providers. It's a very clean, thorough approach and in the long run you'll benefit from using it as it makes life easier.
gigapig Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I don't think mame runs Atomiswave or Naomi, you will need Demul for those.

I have the merged set now and I'm still unable to play Street fighter III usa or Japan versions, only Asia, and the XML doesn't use the asian version so I can only run the game directly from MAME not hyperspin. (also i meant to put this in hyper spin section not emulators) I don't think mame runs Atomiswave or Naomi, you will need Demul for those. I'm using Demul but using the mame romset, a lot of those games work with that romset

Merged roms, afaik, require a few extra steps to be able to use via HS whereas split roms will work right off the bat. As for the databases, that can be for a number of reasons. Examples include punctuation corrections, fixing/standardizing the regions or nomenclature in general, or sometimes the title on the box may appear slightly differently than the game's official name. It's also common for the same game to have different names in EU and NA so some of those could be simply correcting the XML to the Western-most nomenclature or removing duplicates. With the NES example, 1.0 would be considerably older than 1.3 by a number of years.
Logics21 Posted April 30, 2016 Author Posted April 30, 2016 I had newest split set about 50gb now I switched to the merged set thinking It would solve the problem with street fighter game. It didn't but i noticed its not a hyper spin problem Mame itself won't let me launch the US version of the game it says its the machine is missing something.
