Aorin
Hi all! I noticed that we have Daemon tools 10.2 available in downloads section, it reads 10.3 doesn't work, I was using a version prior to 5.0.1, so I tried 10.2 since in most cases, updating is always a good thing. When I installed 10.2, I then tried to load some Sega Saturn games to see how it goes. It worked, but I noticed problems compared to older versions. The module tells us that we have to point the Daemon executable to DTagent.exe and not DTlite.exe like it was before, so far, OK, but then when I loaded 3 or 4 different games I noticed I had to wait double the time or a little more for the game to start compared to what it needed in my older version of Daemon tools, it also delays a lot for the module to reload HS or my taskbar and mouse pointer when testing directly via Rocket Launcher. I'd like to know if you guys updated and tested Daemon 10.2 there and if you had or noticed the same issues? Anyway, I uninstalled 10.2 and installed 5.0.1 to see if it hadn't any other interference from another program, and it turns out that the problem, for me at least, is really 10.2, because 5.0.1 loads Saturn games without any delay and when I exit the emulator, the module makes all its work in 1 second and everything is up for you to load any other game. To make it easier, I'm posting the link from where I got 5.0.1 if you also feel you need it, like I did: http://daemon-tools.en.uptodown.com/ I suggest Gigapig to make some more tests in 10.2 to make sure my experience can be reproduced, and if it does it would be nice to have 5.0.1 in downloads section instead 10.2, seems that the developers of Daemon tools are changing a lot the program, in a way that it's not favorable for our kind of use. Aorin
The reason that 10.2 is in the downloads section is because 10.3 changed the CLI and the RL devs didn't want to update it because DT changes their CLI quite frequently and they understandably don't want to have keep updating the code, especially when new versions don't have any benefit for our emulation purposes. This may have changed, but initially Windows 10 users had to use either DT10 or DT6 I believe. I run DT10 on my test pc on Win10 and I haven't noticed any significant slowdown issues, but I mainly use that build to help people troubleshoot and test stuff so I haven't really tested it extensively. My main build is on a pc running Win8.1 and using DT4 so I won't bother updating DT until I make the eventual jump to Win10 on that pc. Nice to hear from you Agent. Yeah, I believe my experience can be reproduced, I play Sega Saturn a lot via Hyperspin and I'm used to it, the loading times, the exit times, etc., someone who plays Saturn a lot will probably notice this difference. Again, I'm not affirming that, since I just tested in one PC, I just believe that 10.2 can be a problem elsewhere. If Windows 10 users can use DT6, so maybe DT6 should be used instead 10.2 if Windows 10 has the same problems as I had, I'm using Win 8.1 64 bit like you, and I was using DT 4.49, which I keep if I need it, but it seems 5.0.1 works as well as 4.49. Aorin
After further tests I can say that, for me, the best experience is indeed the last Daemon Tools that keep the virtual drive active, which was 4.49 as far as I know.
