X360 controller randomly doesn't work

Okay, on to my second question after starting to use Hyperspin for the first time...

 

Every now and then, if I let a theme go for longer than three seconds or so, my X360 controller becomes unresponsive.  If I hit a button enough times or push the analog stick in a given direction, after a few seconds (sometimes a little longer), it works again.

 

This doesn't appear to be happening with my keyboard.

 

I did a search, and apparently this has been a problem before, but was supposed to have been fixed with 1.4 (which I'm using).  I also read that you have to disable the trackball and spinner, which I've done.
