Frontend joystick lag and Hyperpause controls

Hello!

A bit new to this-- I apologize if these questions have been asked before.  I've recently put together a bartop arcade using two player joysticks that are seen on my system as control pads.  I have joysticks enabled in HyperHQ and, although the the controls are functioning on the frontend, there seems to be a awful lag and response rate navigating through the system wheel. The keyboard, on the other hand, navigates the enters games very smoothly when I use it. I believe I have the most current version of Hyperspin. Controls work great in the emulators themselves. I've heard a few people say that joysticks don't play nice with the hyperspin frontend and should be disabled.  Is this true and does anyone have any recommendations on an alternative method that will still allow me to navigate the system with my joystick panel? I've been trying to steer away from using xpadder or JoyToKey if possible.

Also, a side question regarding Hyperpause-- I'm able to enter the hyperpause menu during games but my arcade controller does not work once in it-- I can't navigate the menus, only enter and exit it.  Is there a way to map controls within hyperpause?

Thanks so much for any help-- you guys are great!

You need to disable joysticks/trackballs/spinners in HyperHQ.

Since it sounds like your joysticks don't use a keyboard encoder you will need to setup Xpadder, Joy2Key, Pinnacle or something similar to get it working.

I believe Spawk has a tutorial here that can help you out, as well as a metric ton of topics with tips you could search for. I can't really help beyond that as I use an iPac and have never needed Xpadder etc...

EDIT: No idea about pause as it also just works for me. Maybe there are settings in the HyperPause tab within RLUI?

Thanks, Metalzoic--  I appreciate the help! Wish my controls were keyboard based so I wouldn't have to work with a keymapper.  I read up a bit on the ghutch start-up script-- do you think that might work for my purposes?
