How to create an xml file for my entire romset

Let me start by saying I am a NOOB.  I'm setting up an old Core 2 Duo to act as a game base for my kids (and so i can get rid of the wall af cartridges that I have now...).  Ok, nuff there.  I have a fairly complete rom set for SNES and genesis.  However, the only xml file that I can find is missing a bunch of them.  Like over a thousand for SNES alone.  Is there a way to create an XML file for my romset?  I tried Don's tools, but that just matches my ROMS to the downloaded XML file, which excludes a bunch of games.  I'm running all x86 programs (as opposed to x64 - the computer doesn't like 64 bit).  Running Hyperspin frontend with Rocketlauncher and Retroarch.  Thanks in advance....

the Official Hypespin XMLs are based on the no intro  rom sets.

the criteria goes

- Only one entry per tittle

-US (English games) are preferred; if not found  the Pal version is added

- Only Japanese (Asian) games are included in the XML if they don't contain text that requires you to speak the language.

if you feel that their are thousands of games missing its because you want to have every single copy of each game (more than likely you ave a Good Set of roms)

Don'ts tools consists of multiple programs.

- the reason Don's is excluding a bunch of games is because  you are renaming your roms to match the Official XML,  its only going to pick one for each tittle and ignore the rest.

what you want  to create a new XML based on your rom set.

Use Don's tools  --> Create New HyperList.exe.  This program will scan your roms folder and make a new XML based on the roms it finds.

So is there a list that matches the XML file, or should I allow Don's to rename the 792 Roms that it was able to match?  Sorry...the MAME side set right up with no issues.  This has me stumped, and i haven't even touched the Genesis emu yet...

because mame has a universal naming system.. the games have one filename for each game..

MAME roms don't need to be renamed because , MAME roms need to be name to match what the emulator wants. the MAME naming scheme is based on what mame wants.

List???

search the web,  their is no rom linking in this site,

you should be able to find and download a Hyprespin ready set already renamed to match the Hyperspin XMLs.

You can rename your current roms,  like I said a No-Intro Set  is your best starting point.   I had a GoodSet and don's tools found about 10-20 of the 800-1000 roms in the Genesis XML.

I had to download a No-Intro set,  but if you have to replace your roms you are better of looking for the Hyperspin ready set. it will save you allot of time and trouble.

You can always let Rocket Launcher build the XML from the rom folder.. it will overwrite the current xml and you'll lose all the information like the manufacturer info, etc. but honestly I really don't care about all that especially for older systems from when I was a kid because I already know who made what (at least for the games that matter anyways)

If your roms simply are named wrong? I'd probably just use FAT MATCH and the rom renaming program in don's tools (i always find it best to use both when naming issues come up.. FAT MATCH normally does a good job but whatever it misses I can manually rename with the don's tool renaming program)

The bigger issue with generating your own, and why I never recommend doing so, is that you would have to rename all media to match your custom xml naming. So instead of just getting an already named set or renaming the roms you would have to instead rename every wheel, theme, cart, box, video, etc.

yeah, with certain systems I had to go that route but to be honest it helped me understand how hyperspin worked. If I remember correct what I did was rename my roms to match the wheels or videos and then I let RL build the xml from the folder. In my case I just went with whatever roms I could get my hands on and in most cases they came from older systems that I had emulators on. Knowing what I know now I'd probably just look for hyperspin ready roms which are easy to find.
