Hi,

Can someone check that this info is correct:

I am looking at the NEC systems and believe that they were brought out and named like this:

1987 - 95 - Turbografx 16 and then TurbografxCD is the same as PC Engine and PC Engine CD renamed only in Japan

1989 - 1991 - Pc Engine SuperGrafx is also named PCEngineSG is there a Japanese version of this?

1991 - 1995 - Pc Engine TurboDuo

1994 - 1998 - PC-FX is

I see that there are databases for both is that because the Japanese games are separate?

Any info or corrections to the above welcome!

thanks

Yes the Turbo Grafx was solely released in the USA and in Europe. They just had different colors for the consoles. These games were ported into English by NEC.

The PC Engine was a smaller white box the size of a CD case and was strictly sold in Japan. All of these games are in Japanese besides the translations roms or ISO Super Cd Rom games.

The SuperGrafx system had some slight upgrades for the processor speed and an enhanced graphics chip, but was still essentially a basic PC Engine that played the same games with a handful of SuperGrafx specific games.

The turbo duo and duo r were the PC Engine with the Super CD rom system integrated into the PC Engine without the need to buy a CD system and the connecting carrying case separately. And it had a grater capacity for system game memory without the need for a Tanokoe bank add on.

The PC-FX was a completely new system from NEC that again was only sold I Japan. The graphics chip, CD drive, main system board, and the system console received a major Overhaul. But the games were not a simple to play and most of them heavily require knowing the Japanese language. Although there are some games that you can play on it without too much trouble. This was also NECs last system console before they gave up in the game console market.

I hoped this helped.

I have created a automation installer for special art which displays the current system along side its predecessor and successor and the dates it was current. This is why I need this information to be correct. Is my interpretation correct?

It is except for one PC-engine was first in Japan I think only one year after the Nintendo was launched. It started there first and then was brought over to the other English regions eight months to a year later. With the Turbo Graphics 16 wider console and black double wide system. But is correct for the most part yeah.
