vice & uae joystick problems

ok, within both of these emulators outside of hyperspin I can load them up and config the joysticks so my buttons work when games are launched.. the problem I seem to run into on both emulators is once I exit the emulators and start them up... for whatever reason the setting don't seem to stay there and I have to either (in the case of uae) reload my config file or manually change the setting or change the setting again for vice.

loading both UAE and VICE from hyperspin... fire button doesn't work but left, right, up, down work fine.... in UAE (running in cd32 mode) left, right, up, down works and apparently at least one button seems to work but that's it. my problem seems to be the joystick configurations within the emulators themselves.

How do you guys have your controls for joystick/gamepad setup and are your configurations loading up each time you start the emulator outside of hyperspin?

Well WinUAE is easier than Vice but only because the C64 has a bunch of keyboard keys as well which you really need key mapper profiles for not just cursor and fire. An example would be Raid Over Moscow which uses the function buttons as well as cursor and fire.

So for WinUAE refer to this

And for Vice here is my xpadder profile as an example. Notice the Alt-J to switch joy ports (which you shouldn't need to do if you have the Commodore 64.ini in the modules folder and Alt-W for Warp mode.

I have to figure out what's going wrong on the emulator side for both... the problem with win vice is the configuration for joytick port 1 doesn't stay at "none".. with vice you're supposed to set joystick 2 to whatever you're using (keyboard or gamepad, whatever) and leave joystick port 1 to "none". I've saved the config and it still changes if I exit and try to launch from hyperspin.

Running win uae outside of hyperspin... i can't seem to get my cd32.uae (congfig file) to load every time I start the emulator... I've set my joystick to my gamepad and I've change the setting to cd32 type of controller.. and i even saved that configuration (cd32) and if I load a game up.. everything works like it should using my gamepad... the problem is when I exit the emulator and load it back up.. the joystick settings go back to keyboard/numb pad and I have to manually change the settings each time.

both of these emulators should just save whatever settings I last used and load them back up as is every time but for whatever reason they're not.

I'll check into vice, I'm not sure I have it set to none.

With Winuae, I'm sure you know to load your config before changing anything and save after. The file should be named cd32host.uae not cd32.uae.

ahhhhh, ok the filename could be the issue here

just made a new xpadder profile and mapped the cd32 buttons to my gamepad... and actually managed to get it in RL... however when I launch from Hyperspin the buttons don't seem to be working... but when I check xpadder the profile is loaded but buttons still aren't working. they work fine in RL. I'll play around with it.

just wanted to report success with getting cd32 working...in hyperspin as well... buttons now work! thanks for the point in the right direction.

problem resolved for both emulators.

Finally got the controls for win vice to work!!!! I basically used the same profile I had setup for Amiga CD32 (using the numb keys) and everything is working perfect.. I didn't even go back into the emulator to see if it's saving the settings. I think the problem could have been conflicting keys that I was using or perhaps another setting in win vice (i think enable joystick keys?) in any event I can't even remember from all the trial and error.. the last thing remember is setting joystick 1 to none.. and setting joystick 2 to key#2 and then configured the keys using my Amiga cd32 xpadder profile.
