Game Jump

Hi all,

 

I am new to Hyperspin. I have it on my cab, all running with MAME. Everything seems to work, except for the ability to jump through the list. I am viewing all games, and there are a lot. When I try to jump (left or right on the joystick) either, nothing happens, or I end up at the same game that Hyperspin started on. (Cab is an original arcade machine converted, with a JPAC and PC etc)

 

If I hold the joystick over for a while, I get a ?. I can not then select a letter of the alphabet at all. Just the question mark stays.

 

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it. What am I doing wrong here? In HyperHQ, I set the games to jump 400 at a time. That does not seem to do anything. Is this too much maybe?

 

I haven't quite worked out how to break the games into Genre's yet, while still having all games there available, that may be my next thing to work out, as not being able to jump makes it pretty hard to work with.

 

Appreciate your help. So far, I like the FE, Just need to spend some time learning it better I guess

do you have controls for skip set?

Skip UP is LEFT, Skip Down is RIGHT.

 

Skip up num is F and skip down num is V. This I have not tried, as I was just trying the left and right on the joystick.

 

What I do need to check now that you mention it, is what the left and right on the cab is mapped to. I will need to do this in a few hours when I get back home.... I will have to try and remember how this is set! It has been a while. I converted this thing about 10 years ago, but have been running another FE until now.

OK, sorry for taking a bit to come back. I checked, and on my cabinet, the keys are all setup correctly. Left and right, are to Skip UP/Down. F and V are skip up/down num

 

It still does not work.

 

I have a suspicion why the Alphabetical skip does not work, the MAME game list does not appear to be strictly in alphabetical order either. I was going through the T's last night while I tested somethings, and found a game starting with A in there....

 

I also found that when I pressed the button for "Genre" it comes up with unable to find genre.xml.. so I should be able to sort that. Just putting that info there in case it is somehow related.

I am actually in the process of trying to create a new one of those using Don's tools. Just scanning the ROM folder at the moment. The one I have, seems to be missing quite a lot of info, so this may be getting me to the answer! It is taking a while to create, as I am doing a CRC check as well. Will put it up when I have it, if it looks good. If not, will work out getting a good one first.

right evening all,

 

I have tried the mame.xml for mame 0.173, which is what I am running, downloaded from here. (Romano's) I put this in the hyperspin folder under HyperSpin\Databases\MAME. HyperSpin loads of course, and I can launch games. But, I still am unable to skip games. When I go left or right for skip, it just goes back to the game that HyperSpin started on.

 

However, now, if I "skip up num" which is assigned to F and skip down num, which is V, this works... Maybe I will just assign these to left and right instead of F and V. (left and right is currently set to Skip Up and Skip Down which I think should work, but doesnt for me)

 

So, I think we can say this is resolved once I remap the keys!
