mame not opening for some reason @ emulator level

i'm trying to change certain video settings to make mame games seem clearer. but now for some reason i cant open the mame emulator. it just ends up in my task manager processes but doesnt load. however i can still run the mame games through hyperspin. any idea whats wrong? im using mame 173 btw.

You may have screwed up the MAME ini file.  Delete/rename/backup mame.ini in your MAME emulator folder, open a cmd prompt, cd to your MAME emulator folder and run mame.exe -cc

 

That will create a try new mame.ini file.

i dont see the mame ini file in my mame folder

when i try to open mame it seems to be running in the background or whatever you call it. it just appears in my task manager like that

 

 

now i even have problems opening the games from hyperspin level..

Did you do what I suggested with the mame.ini file?  It's the file underneath the mame.exe.  The file with an icon of a page and a cog.

Go to the view tab in the folder at the top and check the box file name extensions that will help you find the files easier.

dont wanna start a new thread so i'll just use this. now i got to my mame video settings and it looks like this.

 

 

may i know what is the optimal options i should use. the graphics are quite bad and pixelated. nowhere near as good as what im getting at my PS2 emulator.

Older arcade games /= ps2 games when it comes to quality

but is there a way to fix the quality? because on my pandora box the quality of the games there seems to be a lot better. but on mame the same games are really pixelated. (fighting games mainly since i mainly play those. king of fighters/marvel/street fighter)
