Well well... I had RetroArch for a long time but like a lot of people I tried with it and just gave up on it.

I decided to give it another shot because I wanted to use it for N64.. and to my shock I actually got it going and running flawlessly other than it not being compatible with certain games I wanted to run. After getting n64 to work I figured I'd try SNES and NES and got those running as well.. and SNES hands down was amazing upgrade from using BSNES and SNESx or whatever it's called.  I even went back to Sega Saturn and finally got that one going... I figured out the problem.. it was with the controls! I go into the settings and bind them all manually.

SNES looks amazing with RetroArch

Anyways.. I'm trying to figure put out one thing with the settings... I know when you save configs in RetroArch.. it saves them in new files and adds a -2, etc, but my question is should I be renaming these files to replace the original config file and should I be moving these config files to another folder? I remember watching a video once and the person was copying the configs to another folder. A bit lost on this part as I've changed the control binds for NES and have saved the config and renamed the file/replaced the original config file.. and when I launch NES again but buttons aren't the same as I saved them.

My message to anyone that was struggling with RetroArch is to one first.. get over the prehistoric look and feel of RetroArch.. I got over this by actually going back to my soft-modded Wii and most of the emulators on their are Prehistoric looking and I even setup RetroArch on the Wii. being comfortable with RetroArch makes a huge difference because my main reason for giving up on in way back was the prehistoric look and feel made me give up on it but the way it makes SNES look... ahhh man! I actually want to play this thing now!

Prehistoric look?

Maybe you should upgrade your retroarch install

I have the new version as well.... which isn't that much better.. I mean the flow is better and looks smoother with nice color compared to the older versions lol. using the new version is what got me interested in getting RetroArch going again... I was speaking more to the people that probably were turned off with the feel of RetroArch which is still the same approach just visually better.. but anyways I figured out the problem with configs... I had it all wrong.. I had to rename the file but rename the file to match the system name in RL/HS.

It's pretty easy to use. I have many systems running off it and did nothing else but go in and set controls.

yeah, I always knew it was pretty solid emulator... just never gave it the time it deserved but glad I finally got into it. I don't think I'm gonna replace all my emulators but SNES and NES are now RetroArch... I kind still dig Fusion for Genesis/SMS/CD but I may start messing with it to see if I'll switch those as well.. N64 I may set RL to run certain games with RetroArch and the ones that don't work.. use Project 64.. I didn't really notice too much difference between the N64 games but didn't really do a true comparison and obviously the shaders kick ass on RetroArch with SNES I didn't even select a Shader and whatever was the default looked good enough for me.. way better than BSNES and the other emulators made SNES look.

I was reluctant to switch to Retroarch at the beginning too but now i love it. I use it for pretty much all systems that can be used for, what got me into it was how easy is to setup and the shaders, I love those NTSC shaders!

What do you mean by prehistoric look? It's one of the few emulators that has an appropiate gui that can be used fully with a controller, In my opinion that's quite important for app that is used to play videogames.

Emulators such as Dolphin and PPSSPP vs (the original) RetroArch look and feel.. granted the new version of RetroArch is a step up visually. When I said Prehistoric I didn't mean as in what the emulator could.. but was talking more on it not being the most visually pleasing emulator which probably scared people the first time they tried to get it going... especially folks like myself that had a little trouble setting it up at first but that was due to the fact that the look of the emulator turned me off... it reminded me of too much of the homebrew apps on my Wii.
