bigdogkc Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I am embarrassed to be asking for help, but I am totally lost. I can get Hyperspin to work just fine, but am not able to get a single ROM to work. I only have a handful, as I am currently trying to be legit about which games I get. I am guessing based on what little I am learning that I have the wrong version of the ROM for the MAME version I am running. What is the best way to handle something like this. I am pretty sure my ROMs aren't even all the same version, so I am stuck and getting frustrated. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks Bigdogkc
rastan Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Unless you're dealing with games like pacman, donkey kong and other old games that probably haven't been changed over the various mame sets.. you definitely need to be using the same version of mame as the rom set. A lot of people will skip around the issue and act more righteous about it and we definitely shouldn't openly discuss where to get the roms but there is no way to be legit about getting roms other than you actually own the boards they came from.. with that being said your only best bet to get a solid mame rom set going is to totally get down and dirty and get your hands on the latest romset / current mame version. google is definitely your friend when it comes to finding mame sets. it's never a good idea to randomly dowload mame roms unless you know which version they are and you have the matching version of mame.
thatman84 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 You could use something like romvault or clrmamrpro to scan your roms against the day file specific to your MAME emulator version. this should pick out any roms you have that match the emulator you are using. Then you can see what your missing and decide about getting a better set
