Game Logo Won't Show on Wheel

Hello there! I got into the emulation scene a few months ago and into hyperspin two weeks ago so I'm quite stumped here.

Here's the thing, I'm currently working on my Nintendo DS wheel. I still need the video snaps and the box artwork but I want to fix my current issue before moving on. I have my game list and most of the game logos, there's just one that won't show up. It's the Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney - Justice for All logo that won't show up on my wheel. Every other logo is there except for that one. I double and tripled checked that the name was axactly the same on RocketLauncher, the XML file, the logo image and the 7z file. I downloaded another png logo image from google and that still didn't work. All the games play just fine from the wheel and all other logos are there except for that one. Any insight that you hyper experts can share on this is greatly appreciated because I'm stuck scratching my head thinking why only that logo won't show. XD

Hola Axl! Welcome to the forums!

You said you checked RocketLauncher media, but try checking the Hyperspin one (in case it is not the same folder). Go to your Hyperspin media folder (Hyperspin\Media\<systemname>\Images\Wheel), and check that the game name matches.

Hope the above helps :)

Saludos!

Hola Kondorito! Thanks for welcoming me.

What I meant is that I made sure that name was the same for RocketLauncher UI. I forgot to type the UI at the end. I put my media in my HyperSpin Folder, the game logos go right where you described it and the name matches across RocketLauncher UI, the logo image, XML file and the 7z file itself.

I know it's a minor nitpick that just one game logo won't show but I want to know in case of future instances like this and for curiosity, I mean, why only that logo? Thanks again! :)

@axl398 Is any of the HS-specific media having the same issue? Could try copying the name from a piece of art that is loading correctly and pasting it for the logo name. Could be a minor discrepancy or something.

Hello Avar! Are you the one who makes the video tutorials on youtube?

I should've been more specific. Yes, it's the wheel art. The wheel works fine and the rest of game logos appear there, it's just that one game. I've also copied the name straight from the 7z file and pasted it on the image but it didn't work. I did the same with the XML file, I opened it, copied the name and pasted it on the image, I just added the extra stuff like, "(USA) (En, Fr)" at the end and still no success.

EDIT

I forgot to mention that the rest of my media is fine and I've had no trouble with it.

Yep, that's me!

Ok just to check my understanding, within HyperSpin the wheel art isn't displaying? Or within RocketLauncher/Fade/Pause? Sorry if it seems like I'm being a pedant it's just there's a distinction in the paths for each so I wanna make sure I get the whole picture. Should be an easy fix regardless.

If it's within HyperSpin but you're absolutely 100% sure the name is right after copy/pasting from a verified working piece of art, the next thing I'd do is open the offending image in Photoshop and re-export it as a png on the off chance someone just renamed a .jpg to a .png or if there's something wonky about the file or w/e.

If it's only within RocketLauncher, Fade, or Pause, you'll wanna verify the name withing RocketLauncher/Media/Wheels and try the same steps.

Edit: Could you please attach the offending wheen file here as well.

I'm so glad that's you! Now I can thank you for helping me set up HyperSpin! Seriously, thank you! Simply Austin has also helped me a lot but his HyperSpin set up video was too much for me to handle all at once.

I just checked, the file was .jpg. The only conclusion I can come up with is that the .png image that I put at the beginning had something wrong in the name like an extra space, afterwards I put the google image, without me checking if it was .png or .jpg, and it was only then that I tried copying and pasting the name.

I apologize, I wanted to avoid coming to the forums with problems that had simple solutions so I wouldn't waste people's time. But if it wasn't for you I probably would've taken longer to figure it. XD

Thanks for your help here and for the videos. I really appreciate what people like you and Simply Austin do for people like me who are beginners. Hope you and Kondorito have a nice day! :)

@Axl398 You're welcome! And don't sweat asking for help. Most of the vets here have seen every lil nitpicky thing so we can tell you what the problem likely is in seconds instead of you having to worry about if for too long! The workflow from this is the best place to start when troubleshooting a wheel issue like that in general.

A similar issue is if you're spinning the wheel and it suddenly freezes when it gets to a very specific spot. This is a result of a corrupt wheel image, which is rare but could sometimes happen with the old Sync system. The new system should fix it entirely but if it ever happens to you just look at the name of the last wheel, that's started to become visible and the offending wheel will be the one right after it alphabetically. Just have to replace that file and it's fixed.

I'm also having a similar/same issue with the wheel art of TMNT in mame;

when I start mame, my wheel art shows properly (the classic 80's logo ) when mame first starts up - I don't have many games on mame, so tmnt is visible right from the initial startup. once I scroll far enough through my game list that tmnt leaves he screen, it will never show the wheel art again when it comes back around on the wheel. it will now show; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - which is the same as my description in the same font as my description.

I've double checked the mame xml file and it is spelt game name -"tmnt" lower case ( game description- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) , which is the same as my wheel art, the rom and the theme.

if I label any of my working wheel art ( xmen, for example ) as "tmnt", it will initially show up where tmnt is supposed to be on the wheel, but the xmen wheel art, then just as before, it too disappears and is replaced with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"...which tells me it's not the artwork itself, as the problem occurs no matter what artwork is labelled "tmnt". all my wheel art, including tmnt is .png

I've gone over the xml, wheel art, and theme to make sure everything is "tmnt", and it is. i'm not sure what else I am missing.

anyone?

That is strange. Running latest HS1.4 with all of the recommended .NET framework and whatnot? Also, what version of mame / xml?

I set this arcade up a long time ago and it's been fine until recently, so don't laugh, but it's hyperspin 0.3.0.0 and mame32 version 0.85.0.0 according to properties/details of both programs.

My windows xp computer was dying ( which was inside my ninja turtles mame cabinet since 2004 - which I added hyperspin to back in '08) , so i bought a newer computer running Windows 7 and had everything transfered over so I wouldn't have to reconfigure everything from scratch again, and that's when I noticed this new problem with the wheel art.

Other than this hiccup, the computer-upgrade process has been pretty seamless.

Thanks for your interest in my troubles.

Hmm I'm glad the transfer went ok. If it wasn't for the new computer I'd suspect a bad sector on the HDD. Running all of the Visual C++ redistributables?

The setup process has gotten waaaaay easier lately so I'd definitely encourage an upgrade, keeping your stable build as a backup. I suspect it'd fix the issue and also give you some new options/capabilities with RL. Though if you wait a month or two we hope to have the new delivery system up and running which will make it even easier.

I can't say that I know what Visual C++ redistributables are, but I have the same setup on my street fighter cabinet, and there are no issues there.

my old dying computer which I transfered the info over from DID have a hard drive issue.

Guessing there's a "hole" in something somewhere big enough to cause the issue but not big enough to cause any major breakage in anything. Lil minor corruption.

Posted

Would it be possible that my dying old computer corrupted or broke something within my hyperspin build that was then transfered over to my new computer, you think?

Posted

Yeah. Usually you only really feel this sorta thing on a video or something where you'll get a flicker of artifacts for a split second at a corrupted part. Can happen to anything though. If it was me, I'd make a backup of the original and make a fresh build just to be safe. I doubt anything bad'll happen to your current build I just don't like playing around with corruption in general.

this is my database/mame/xml file.

I've noticed it only opens with notepad, whereas, the database/mame/xml on my street fighter arcade will open with a simple double click and it shows in red and blue fonts and I cannot edit it.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with the problem...?

MAME.xml

Try opening it, copying it into an entirely new document, deleting the original, then saving the new document over it.

I've copied it, deleted it, opened a new file in notepad, pasted it, then saved it as 'MAME', but now its not an xml file.

I then did the same thing in word, but still, not an xml file....

I don't.

'show hidden files, folders, and drives' is checked.

When I click the 'mame' wheel in hyperspin, nothing happens. It doesn't seem to like this word created xml.
