Meph Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I am about to setup 2 Hyperspin systems. I have 2 i5 computers to run them and they came with Win 10 Pro pre-installed. Should I stick with that or would I be better installing Win 7 Pro? I don't know the benefits of one over the other in the long run with Hyperspin. Is Win 10 going to be a headache?
wderbi Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 If you plan to have more than 3 or 4 USB devices, I will say definitely Windows 7. Without going into to much detail here, see the thread I started here over a year ago, and the BS I had to go through with Windows 10! http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/15745-weird-problem-hypespin-becomes-non-responsive-randomly/#comment-215648
Bungles Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I had issues with Win7 and Wii Remotes however. So each has their ups/downs. Personally windows 10 works for me fine. However only really need 1-2 usb ports and the rest is BT. However on my Testing Bed/Main Computer I have a plethora of USB Devices and BT Devices all working ok also running Win 10. wderbi Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I have heard others say that Win 10 works for them too, but there were many who say that they have issues with Win 10 arbitrarily remapping device IDs and causing them to be all non-responsive in some cases like hyperspin, or selective usb devices that become mis-identified or have identities swapped in the device manager. I find that you are more likely to have this problems when many different devices come from the same manufacturer. In my case, I had lots of devices from Ultimarc (U360, IPAC44, optipac, 2 aimtraks, and 2 spintraks) that have really close hardware IDs. Win10 from what I read overtakes the BIOS, but it does not handle hardware IDs well at all. I say take a chance since you already have 10 installed, but install hyperspin and all of your roms on an external drive. That way, the likely necessary and eventual change to Win 7 will be a lot less painful!
