Setting up mame and pulling my hair out

I can launch Mame on it's own and it works perfectly.

 

When I launch Hyperspin I can go to mame and brows through an endless list of roms.

 

When I try to launch a rom in hyperspin nothing happens.  I also cannot launch a rom from rocketlauncher ui, I can audit them and get a good list but when I try to launch a rom from the audit screen nothing happens.  If I right click on them and try to choose the emulator to launch with still nothing happens.  I can make the emulator open on the emulators tab of the mame sytem.

Help appreciated thanks!

Unrelated question:

Does anyone know how to set super eagle filter on for all mame roms?
