Help with rom recognition

I am a first time HS guy, and cannot get HS to recognize my roms

You may need to give way more detail than that. 

I would suggest watching a tutorial first.

Are you using Rocket Launcher? If the rom names don't match perfectly it wont find your them. I'd recommend using Don's rom renamer from Don's HyperSpin Tools, it will auto search and rename your rom's to the correct file name. Once renamed and as long as you're pointing to the correct director  it should find your roms.
