Need help with my inherited Hyperspin setup

Hello All

New member here from Scotland.

Bit of background...

I Inherited a Hyperspin setup from a mate who recently moved away.

It's an internal HD with quite a lot of systems and games on it.

I put the HD in my htpc setup and managed to get a few games running (kind off)

He had it all set up for drive D: on his system but i tried to change it all to drive X: as i have a few hard drives in my system and my current D: drive has a lot of stuff installed on it so i think it would be better to just change the hyperspin drive to X:

i changed the required rom and emulator paths in hyperHQ for the systems that dont use relevant paths.

What happens now is if i go to start a rom or sometimes even select a system, hyperspin just closes with no error etc. some other systems like N.E.S let me in but when i select a rom it says hyperlaunch not found.

i did also change the path in the settings.ini.

Sorry if this is all really beginner questions but i'm pretty stuck now, i have searched google / hyperspin-fe etc but have come to a blank now :(

Anyone have any ideas what i may have missed?

Many Thanks James

1. download notepad++ http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

2. install notepad++

3. open notepad++

4. in the menu bar select Search -> Find in files. or press ctrl+shift+f

5. find what type D:\

6. replace with type X:\

7. directory choose the root directory of everything hyperspin related

8. make sure match whole word only and match case is NOT selected

9. search mode is normal

10. select check in all sub folders

11. select in hidden folders

12. press the replace in files button.

this may not work for everything, some emulators will store their path information in the registry, which means you will need to reinstall those emulators.

I also would suggest starting a fresh install on the other drive first and then transferring just the media folders and the database folder from the old install.

Thank you very much.

I shall get to work on that, But yes maybe a fresh install oneday would be worth it and give me a lot more insight into how it actually all works.

Thanks james

James,

Hello and welcome to the Forums. +1 for sure on a fresh install. It the setup you have now is old (or even kinda old), a fresh install will probably mean installing some newer versions of the emulators also. I would recommend you do a fresh install. Put it in a different directory and start with one system and see how you like it.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron

I think that maybe the best option to be honest!

Tried the "find in files" just now and it crunched away for a while then said "file too large to open" i clicked ok and it crunched some more then it stopped responding :hahaha:

So yes i think a fresh install is the way a head and then i can get it all just right as i like my stiff neat & tidy, i also like to know what file/folder does what and why and a fresh install should help teach me this (i hope) :)

Thanks James
