The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Is it easy enough to update an old version ?

I have bought a pc with hyperspin already installed but i have just checked and its an old version 1.2.00, very sorry if this is obvious but do i just download the newest version and overwrite the old ? This is the first time i have used MAME and Hyperspin and really don't want to lose all the games that are on the pc by making a noob mistake.

I have been trying to change the scanline settings but nothing seems to change? could this just be due to it needing the update?

Thanks for any help

Sorry to hear that.

Let me elaborate:

These systems are often horrible to work with and are as you have noticed always outdated. The sellers don't offer any support after the deal has been made, which then leads guys in your situation to this forum.

This happens way to often and you shouldn't expect any support from this site either. Not unless you go for a fresh install, which will cause you to loose all settings and probably some emulators as well as games.

A fresh install is recommended no matter what in your case I'm afraid.

I updated by putting the new version over the old (I actually just renamed the old version). The new version comes with support for mp4 videos, which are better, but also comes with a bunch of different problems. If you don't have the new videos, you should probably stick with what you have and spend a bit of time looking at how Hyperspin and MAME are set up (and in case you've not realised, they're two distinct, separate packages)

Your best bet is to stick with what you've paid for. It's likely that you bought it because you wanted it all setup for you, which is fine. Any features not included should be discussed with the seller.

Once you start updating and screwing around you'll end up in a mess.

There are many guides on setting up HLSL (scanlines) out there as long as your Mame version supports it.

You normally find the relevant setting in the mame.ini file in the Mame directory. Look for the hlsl heading and to switch it on change the "0" to "1".

Mattedsmith, gigapig thank you so much for taking the time to reply to someone who knows nothing about the program he bought but is an old school gamer who thought it sounded great! That was kind of what I was thinking Manihere very sorry if I offended you by buying a PC with hyper spin loaded that was not my intention, not everyone knows what they are getting into but saying no one will help seems a bit elitist! Once again very sorry I did not mean to rock the boat.

I know exactly where manicshere is coming from. If you spend time on this forum you'll understand the work that goes into making the artwork, the software etc that makes it all look stunning and work well. To have someone profit from it is to me, frankly sickening, myself and others have discussed at length.

The best thing for you would be to enjoy what you have bought, but if you wish to learn then read the forums watch the guides and start a new version of Hyperspin separately from this thing you have bought.

When your happy become a Platinum member, get your media updated, then take the pc you bought and throw it in the canel or through the guys window. ;)

Lol I already feel like throwing it through the window! The thing is I am not a complete computer idiot , but this program seems complicated! And buying a pre programmed PC seemed the easy option I dont think the guy I bought it from made much profit to be honest it was £50! But I see your point. Anyone just setting out on the whole MAME/HYPERSPIN has to start somewhere though.

Thanks again

Zedsded I'm not at all offended. Not with you at least, but at the people exploiting our hard work to make profit. The main reason we don't offer our help in this situation isn't to spite anyone, but rather to avoid the hellish mess it is to configure on of these pre-built systems.

If your still not discouraged and you're willing and able to put in some work yourself I and many others on this forum will gladly help you get started from scratch. The end result will be way better and way more functional than anything you can buy!

Feel free to contact me ;)
