how come roms cant contain "&" without messing up the database file?

reason for question:

IN HLHQ whenever I go to global settings, sometimes I will get an error relating to the database file.

if i remove all the "&" from the rom names, the error goes away?

anybody else?

That is not correct. The rom file name can contain the "&" symbol. The xml cannot. The easier thing to do is to do a search and replace in your xml file. Search for "&" and replace with "&". The "&" is the correct call out in xml for the "&" symbol.
