dpunktw Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Hey everyone! Really hope someone can help me with this cause I'm at the point of giving up. I just can't seem to get HLSL to run on MAME. So I've read a couple guides and they all point to mame.ini. The only mame.ini I can find is in the root folder of mame so I open that and change driver to d3d, filter to 0 and HLSL enable to 1. I boot up a game and hit ~ to bring up the sliders. When I started toggling through them I only have a few of the parameters available. All I get is: master volume speaker options Brightness contrast gamma Screen stretch horiz and vert Screen position horiz and vert I know there is more (as I've seen in youtube videos and such and they are all present in my mame.ini file). So I searched some more and found some posts talking about the raster.ini in the ini/presets folder instead of the mame.ini, but that just seems to be for when you wanna save the changes you are happy with after using the ~sliders or am I wrong here? Is this the ini you should enable HLSL and d3d and filer 0 in. To make it even more confusing I found a lot of posts pointing to a youtube video where all the ini's in the presets folder are being deleted and then having MAME create a mame.ini there??? Is that the way you must do it? Seems weird cause most guides just say "open mame.ini and apply the following changes..." Really hope someone can make this much clearer for a noob like me! BIg thanks!

dpunktw Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Thanks! Still confused though, this all very new to me...:/ So I read that there is an order of how the ini's are loaded, does that mean that the ini files in the ini/presets folder (such as raster.ini) overrides mame.ini? All my games are from the crt montor era so does it mean that raster.ini is the one being used instead of mame.ini when starting a game? So should a focus on that one instead of mame.ini? Or can I /should I back up all the ini files in preset and then remove them all so that mame.ini is sole ini file in the mame folder (and therefor can't be taken precedence over by other ini.files)? Thanks!
dpunktw Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Also, sorry for all the questions, is there an issue that my mame.ini is in the root folder and not in the ini folder (that a lot of people on youtube seem to have). I haven't put it there myself, it's where I found it. Thanks!
dark13 Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Configuring from the .ini is a mess, that's why I use arcade64 or mameUI to configure MAME directly from a GUI. You can also use RetroArch, it has good shaders too and is a bit easier to set them up. Once configured, if you use RocketLauncher you have to point mame .ini folder in RLGUI Automatizing infopanels creation from .csv files for HTPCs themes (look at infopanel tutorial.zip on the ftp in dark13 folder) PNGs to SWFs automatized flash scripts Hyperspin Wheelset automatized template (photoshop's variables + batch) Aeon nox 4.13 W.I.P. hyperspin skin
