Screen resolution reduction

Hi this is my first post, and apologies if this answer is somewhere I did check the forums but didnt come across the answer.

Most of my favourite games have a much worse screen resolution than they did when I played them some 30 years+ Ago, I guess thats because the game is 480 and the screen is in 1080 or more.

Is there anyway to make the screen resolution on the monitor lower to match the games?

Use CRT shaders and scanlines shaders to mimic original displays.

nb : 1080p displays are the minimum for acceptable results, 1440p are very good, 2160p are gorgeous.

There is no need to lower resolution as MAME does a great job of scaling and then do what tancrede987 said to make it look pretty.
