nguerra Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 I'm having some issues with setting up the Atari 7800. I currently have a pedestal cabinet that has 4 players and controlled by an Ipac 4. If I use EMU7800, I am unable to set up player 2 controller or at least I don't see where to set the player 2 controls. If I use Pro System 7800, I have issues with full screen and sound cracking. Retro arch using the pro system core, plays the games sluggish for some reason. Is there anyone who can provide some advice on setup? I like the EMU7800 the best but it sucks without the second player.
Spawk Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 I should start by saying I don't use this system in my setup. The 7800 had a "select" button on the console. This is how you selected what mode to play the game (1p, 2p, co-op). The option is merely displayed as something like: 1,2,4,6,8,9 Some of these modes will be odd co-op modes where one player would control the movement and the other would control firing for example. You just have to try them each to find out what they are. Maybe this kind of info can be found in their respective manuals? Any emulator worth it's salt should have access to this select button but I don't know of a way to auto load a specific mode when you launch a game.
nguerra Posted December 14, 2020 Author Posted December 14, 2020 Thanks for the reply Spawk, I did see that option however I am referring to key mappings for the 2nd joystick. In other words under the key settings I have an up, down, left, right, fire, fire 2 for mapping to joystick 1. However I don't have or see anything for something like P2 up, P2 down, P2 left, P2 Right, P2 fire and P2 fire2. Seems odd to me that an emulator would only have setting for player 1 and not player 2.
Spawk Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Hmmm, the readme file is pretty vague but it does mention 2 joysticks being able to be used (first two devices found). It also mentions F1 - F4 to set player 1-4 to keyboard/mouse??? If you can get P2 working on keyboard, it would be easy enough to use a keymapper like JoyToKey to map it to joypad. Sorry, wish I could be more help. There is a way, keep fiddling.
nguerra Posted December 14, 2020 Author Posted December 14, 2020 Was unable. I decided to use A7800 emulator. I have it set up in RocketLauncher and the game loads however I get a "one or more roms for this machine are incorrect" error and no atari splash screen. Press a key and everything plays fine. When I launch the game directly from the emulator, I get no errors and I get the Atari splash screen. Not sure why I get the error in RocketLauncher and not in stand alone for the same emulator.
