Nestopia opening OUTSIDE (not within) HyperSpin?

Hi all!

I have spent the last 2 days watching videos and reading on the forums here (first, thank you to the many amazing members here; I've learned a lot). I bought an awesome MAME cabinet from my neighbor, and everything on MAME works perfectly through RL, HS, etc. I wanted to add a few NES roms to see if I could get some more of my old favorite games. I got Nestopia loaded, the few Roms I put in renamed successfully, and they are green as they should be.

Here's the glitch. I can play the NES roms through Rocketlauncher (clicking on the green highlighted game and selecting "open in rocketlauncher or hyperspin" (whichever it is; it's been a while and my mind is foggy!). It opens and is playable this way. However, when I load up Hyperspin and go into NES and go to one of the games I have and load it, the game starts for half a second as the screen flickers, then stops. When I exit out of HyperSpin at this time, I see that Nestopia is open SEPARATE on its own, and the game is running there. So, they work, but it isn't as convenient or cool as having it work in Hyperspin like all my MAME games.

I've double and triple checked everything is setup like it is supposed to be (again, I bought the system all setup already, but I still checked). Paths point to Rocketlauncher as they should, etc. Any troubleshooting I could find, I've tried to no avail. The games load, but they load OUTSIDE HYPERSPIN, and I have to leave the program to play it.

Any ideas or advice? Thanks in advance!

I am not entirely sure why some emulators seem to load up behind HS instead of in the forefront. There are some options in RLUI that may help the situation though:

Thanks. All I have under those options is either "true" or "false." I've got RLUI v. 1.0.1.10. I'm sure there is a newer version out? Do I have to update to fix this, or can I just pick true or false for some of these and get it to work?

If I MUST update RLUI, can I just install over top of it and all my original settings, etc will be saved, or will I need to setup all over again? (Recall I bought this all setup already). Also this is running on an old winxp machine so not connected to internet. I am having to bring stuff over via flash drive.

Hopefully the true/false settings will be enough to fix this. Appreciate your continued help in advance.

Yes HS is a frontend (FE). When you select any game you are leaving HS and loading an emulator.

So you may want to try setting "suspend frontend" to true so that HS is not in front of your game window.

You may also have to set "Restore frontend on exit" to true as well so when you exit the game it will restore HS to the front again.

Thanks for your continued help. Here's what happened.

Setting BOTH to true froze the system and had both the emulator and HS showing as "not responding" after I had to hit ctrl alt delete.

Setting just the first suggestion to TRUE turned the whole screen black but the game never loaded. I was able to get out of it by hitting "esc" on my keyboard. If I exit entirely out of HS then the emulator is not showing running in Taskbar.

I also tried setting "hide frontend" (instead of suspend) to "true" and left "restore" to "true" -- that made my bottom Taskbar disappear and minimized HS and Nestopia. If I hit ctrl all delete HS, RL, and Nestopia all show running, and I can force the game open, but this still doesn't work like it should obviously. Setting "hide frontend" to true and leaving "restore" as "false" does the same thing. (Interestingly, when it flashes back to RL my arrow is on "fix ini files." I did that and didn't seem to make a difference.

Again I'll point out, all my mame stuff works flawlessly and without issue. So I need to try a different nes emulator (even though all my research has told me nestopia is best). If so, what one? Link? Or are there more settings to try?

Just throwing stuff out there. I went through Nestopia emulator options. "DIP Switches on Load" is checked....is that anything? Also in preferences, "autostart emulation" is checked, "run in background" is not checked. And "application priority" is set to "normal" rather than "above normal" or "high." Anything?

Only other thing I note is in RL under emulators tab, "Nestopia" is listed as my default emulator but it doesn't say "global" behind it? I swear it did originally. Is that a problem and if so how to fix?

Other suggestions? This is helpful...

hmmm, I use Retroarch for as many systems as I can myself so it's been a while since I looked at other emu's.

Generally launching from HS should be exactly the same as when you launch from within RLUI. Those suspend options should rarely be needed if you are set up correctly. Can you check and make sure you have these settings correct?

Without looking I am almost 100% positive each of those is set as you have it. I've read so much about this and looked at so much.

I tried UberNes and it said it was missing some { on line 800 and I didn't know how to edit that (or why I would need to) so I just said forget it. Tried Retroarch but didn't have the Nestopia core and again my system isn't connected to the internet, so not sure how to get that?

One thing I notice is originally each emulator has "global" after it when I click the magnifying glass, but with each of the 3 emulators I mention above when selected it no longer says "global" after. Not sure if that's the issue or matters at all?

I am still able to play everything in MAME and can still successfully launch the NES roms in rocketlauncher after auditing the few games I have.

I just don't get how it doesn't work for nes but is flawless for mame. Is there a "use global" setting I need to set somewhere else?

Again, grateful for your help.

Any other ideas? Could it be the emulator? Do I need to have a specific version of Nestopia? Do I need to update HS to change those settings to "user-global" and if so will I need to set everything up again or will everything work? Again I'm on a windows xp machine so would rather not update and have it break what I already have working perfectly in Mame. But if I can continue to build and get nes and SNES stuff on there, why not?

An additional update. Nestopia continues to open behind HS regardless of the settings. That said, I added SNES9x today and some roms and it, by comparison, opens perfectly as it should, without issue. I've changed no settings otherwise. I've tried multiple versions of Nestopia, so I really don't have a clue what it is, especially since Mame and NOW SNES9x work flawlessly....

Thoughts?

Did you fix this? A shot in the dark but check the setting in hyperhq, under the wheel settings on the emulator tab where it says execution, click Hyperlaunch. I know hyperhq isnt really used anymore but I remember a loooong time ago nestopia doing similar things on my cab.
