Help getting Nestopia CORE for Retroarch? No wifi

Hi all,

First, thanks for this great community. I have learned so much in setting up the new arcade system I just bought from my neighbor from reading the forums and watching your videos. A great service here.

My system has Mame and SNES working perfectly. I added NES, using the Nestopia emulator (tried several versions of it)--every time the Rom either doesn't load through Hyperspin or loads behind HS (so if I exit HS I can open the emulator from the taskbar and play it). However, if I audit all my NES games in Rocketlauncher, I can launch from there without issue. I've worked through a variety of settings to no avail (see this thread:

So I thought I'd try Retroarch. The glitch is, my system doesn't have internet (it's an old WinXP computer). So, I can't download the Nestopia CORE for Retroarch to make it work for my NES games. I've looked on their site and other places--and I'm sure it's something obvious I"m missing--but if someone could be so kind as to link directly to the core I need, I can download it, throw it on a flash drive, and transfer it to my arcade and point Retroarch to it. That should work, right? ASsuming so, can someone please, as clearly as possible, point me to the link to DL and what specific core to DL? Thanks in advance. This community rocks.

I guess I can share the core I have (from the downloader inside RA):

nestopia_libretro.dll

It goes in the ../RetroArch/cores/ folder.

You can also compile your own core from here:

https://github.com/libretro/nestopia

You can read more info about options, other files and paths here:

https://docs.libretro.com/library/nestopia_ue/

Since RA can handle many systems, you must specify what core to use in RLUI's "edit global module settings" tab:

Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, I download that dll file you shared and pop it in the directory you note, adjust the Rocketlauncher settings as you note, and retroarch should work just fine with nes emulation? That's it?

(Thanks too for it links. I had looked at both prior to posting but couldn't find for the kids if me, and still can't, where to download the core....?)

I did everything you said and got this message. When I try to run RA on its own outside RL and load a game it says cannot launch the core, even though it recognizes it. Any ideas?

Again, this is on an old Win XP system. Not sure if I need a certain version of RA? Of the core?

If you can't get it to run in RA itself, then it will never run in RL/HS...

Win7 (which I run) is almost dead so I really have no idea about WinXP. NES is seriously one of the easy ones for me though, almost every single emulator I try runs flawlessly.

Just make sure they run in the emu first.

Then try though RLUI (make sure to always check the "edit global module settings" for each system).

HS should launch exactly like RLUI, if not you need to check the settings I linked in your other post.

No, that's a very general error message that will appear no matter what the issue is.

If you want I can try to take a look at you RL error log:

Did you put the "NstDatabase.xml" in ../RetroArch/system/ folder like it states in that second link?

I dl'd the xml and put it in the folder.

Tried launching RA outside RL/HS. When it attempted to load a .nes file I got a pop-up in bottom left corner saying "could not load core," and now the message says "no core." But I literally JUST navigated to and set the core you shared yourself above. Core seems to be the issue. Any ideas?

(If it helps, message in bottom left corner of RA note reads "1.9.12 msvc2010 - No Core" )

I did the same thing setting up RA on my computer dl'd my own core, and itb worked fine. But not on my arcade, without internet.

So I finally got it to work. Had to run a cord to connect arcade to intent, dl core there, and it works. Apparently can't just drop cores from other systems.

Now to button map! Please be easy!
