We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. .flv game preview video files not playing

Hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I am trying to get all 100 of my preview videos working using the default Hyperspin theme, and after too many hours of tinkering, I am asking for help :)

    * All of the .flv videos are in ...\hyperspin\media\mame\videos\

    * SOME of the videos play (example: zaxxon.flv), but many do not (example: 1942.flv).

    * When rotating the wheel to "1942" it does not play the preview video in the box to the left of the wheel (just the same black box).

    * The error "Video Preview available at..." is NOT displayed - even if I delete the 1942.flv filename from ...\hyperspin\media\mame\videos\.

    * I tried renaming a working file (zaxxon.flv) to 1942.flv, but that didn't change anything - still no video preview when selecting "1942" on the wheel.

    * I am using HyperSpin v1.5.1.

    * Issue is the same on my desktop PC (Win10 HOME v21H1 build 19043.1415) and my laptop (Win10 PRO v21H1 build 19043.1415).

    * All .flv videos play OK using VLC.

    * All rom and .flv filenames match.

Q1: Where does HyperSpin get it's data to match the filename of the video before playing it? At   ...\hyperspin\database\mame\mame.xml    or    ...\mame\roms\ ?

Q2: If it is a encoding/transcoding issue, why didn't the 1942.flv file play when I renamed the zaxxon.flv file to 1942.flv?

I have attached a copy of my mame.xls database, zaxxon.flv (working) and 1942.flv (not working).

Thanks in advance for the help!

- Tim

MAME.xml

Posted

I started fresh with a new install of the latest MAME and HYPERSPIN. I downloaded the videos manually as suggested, but the .mp4 files still refused to play. BUT, I think I have this fixed! There were two different issues going on:

1) .mp4 video files would not play (I am using a Radeon HD graphics card), but converting the .mp4 files to .flv worked great! I used a batch converter

2) When I tried to edited down the default \HyperSpin\Databases\MAME\mame.xml file (remove all the unused MAME games), but I must have messed something up.

If I use the default mame.xml file without editing it, all of the .flv files I have play perfectly. I will have to look into how to pair this file down without messing up the data.

Thanks for your help!
