Dogway
Hello, so far on tuning HyperSpin and still wondering which one to go with. As far as I know they share same games and similar system, so what do you think I should set up? I'm not the type of guy to put full romsets or redundant games, I only put the best version of said game so I think I will go for only one of them Master System or Game Gear. I was wondering if there were exclusive games for each of them, so made a search and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sega_Game_Gear-only_games http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sega_Master_System-only_games
duff.the.dude
There are definitely many great games for Master System that are not on game gear, and vice-versa. So for sure you want both systems, but no need to duplicate games between them. For duplicates you would almost always want the master system version, if only for larger screen etc.
Cryofax
Having owned and played the crap out of both, go with the Master System. There is VERY little on the GameGear you can't get a better version of on the Master System. It's not really worth the trouble unless you're an OCD completionist, which it sounds like you are not. It's not at all like the difference between say a GBA and an SNES. The GG is for the most part an inferior subset of the SMS. Nice for a handheld for its time for sure. I loved it, but if this is a TV setup you don't need it if you have SMS IMO. But hey I'm sure someone out there thinks differently!
duff.the.dude
Yes if you don't already know any GG games you like, then probably not worth it for so few games. However, here is a sample list of unique GG games that I have, if some interest you then go for it: Ax Battler - A legend of Golden Axe Crystal Warriors Defenders of Oasis Lunar - Walking School (translated) Phantasy Star Adventure (translated) Phantasy Star Gaiden (translated) Royal Stone (translated) Shining Force Gaiden II, III Shinobi II Sonic Triple Trouble Sylvan Tale (translated) Tails Adventure
Dogway
Thank you duff.the.dude, so for master system the game extension should be .sms am I right? Thanks for the list, I will make a small GG collection, I guess that the major difference in the game for a shared title must be sound, normally handheld suffered from that first. duff.the.dude
Yes .sms, .gg for game gear. The good thing is they always use the same emulator. I also have a few other games that may also be on master system but I keep for completeness, or there are some differences in the GG version. Basically I imagine that if I ever play them on a handheld device then they would fit right in. But yes master system would have better sound and of course look better on TV. Though my game gear bezel looks pretty cool!
Dogway
Well, looking at both romsets, they don't share much more than any other sister machines...
