Hi guys,

Go easy on me, I'm a complete novice when it comes to MAME emulation.

I'm building arcade cabinet, I have a Dell EliteDesk small form-factor PC with 8GB ram and a 3.1Ghz Processor with a 2TB drive. I'm running windows 10 and have setup Hyperspin and Rocketlauncher. I have had success with MAMEUIFX0.159 based on Simply Austin's Youtube Videos, however his video is 8 years old, how relevant is that video content these days?

If one of you were setting up MAME for the first time , which emulator version would you use and what ROM set would you go for?

Also If I was to use newer MAME versions do I need to worry about modules?

Thanks in advance.

Oh any videos or tutorials that would hlep me, please send me the links 🙂

What kind of cpu? I'd go with latest mame release if the cpu can handle it, new version have really good BGFX CRT shaders (not as heavy as HLSL). RL is compatible with 0.253, i guess 0.254 will works too. Latest release has added mr. driller 2, a nice game, and some other system10 games but after 0.198 some games needs more power (tekken, sexy parodius, etc).

Hi @dark13 thanks fro you reply. It has a i5-6500T (upto 3.1 GHz turbo, 2.5 GHz base, Quad core, 6M cache, 4 Threads).

Any ideas if I have to use different modules. I dowloaded 0.244 and the matching ROM set, but I was getting some errors, something about modules?

Try these settings (set the ini folder to the ini folder of your mame folder)

6500T should be good enough for latest mame, maybe a bit borderline with Atari 3DFX and System22 games but as far as I've seen latest drivers are not slower compared to old mame .
