HyperNoob + MAME 0.153=Disaster! Tutorial Needed

Hi,

For starters, im really new to this HyperSpin program. I got several emulators running (SNES,Gameboy Advance, Color, Playstation, and atari 5200) with the artwork and everything. I even have the PC Games wheel. I write my own XML files so i only play the roms i want, and it seems to have worked out so far. Anyway, for the past 3 days I've been trying to set up MAME 0.153. I've tried using MAME 0.153 from the mamedev.org website, MAMEUI 0.146 (because my computer is a 32 bit system), AND MAMEUIFX 0.153 from the mameuifx site. Every time I try to run ANY of these outside of HyperLaunch or HyperSpin, I can't get them to work... When i run MAME 0.153, the screen just goes black and no sounds are played. MAMEUI 0.146 and MAMEUIFX 0.153 open, but when i direct them to my roms folder, none of my roms show up!!! When I look online to find a tutorial of how to set any of these up, I find no answers regarding what Im searching for. Help!!!!!!!

Actually, Time Pilot does work in MAMEUI 0.146

Roms that dont work:

-Metal Slug 2

-Metal Slug 5

-Metal Slug X

-Mega Man III

-Pacman

-Sonic the Fighters

-Street Fighter Alpha 3

When did you last update your Roms? Ideally they should match, so you need to get the 0.153 Rom set.

If you need a Mame setup guide you can find one in my signature. That just to set it up with Hyperspin etc, Mame itself doesn't need much setup other than controls.

gigapig, I've used your videos before and they were SUPER helpful, but I dont see a video for mame 153? I think ive done something wrong, in terms of bios, or whatever. I've downloaded a bios from http://www.planetemu.net/roms/mame-bios-pack ,and extracted it into my roms folder... Im not sure if any of these even need bios files anymore, (since they're updated)

Where are you getting your Roms and when did you update?

I get my roms off coolrom.com tats where ive been getting them for all of my other emulators... and update what?

OK. Myself and others get the full 0.153 set from Pleasure dome, no need to find bios files, everything is included and is checked against the latest dat file. You could use something like CLRMamepro or Romlister to check your Roms and make sure they are correct against the 0.153 dat, Or go ahead and download the split set for PD.

When the new set comes out (next one will be 0.154) I will just point that torrent at the 0.153 Roms I have, they will be checked by uTorrent and then it will only download what's missing.

Of course the problem could be something else entirely, perhaps someone could confirm my suspicions?

I had no idea how to use pleasure dome, and REALLY didnt want to download a torrent installer... Though, I did download CLRMame pro, but have no idea what to do with it...

ok nevermind, I learned how to use the CLR thing. I also read a forum on the isozone, about downloading 151, with the bios. ill try to follow that one and will post if i've made any progress.

Gigapig! Thank you so much for your help!!! i ended up downloading an earlier version rom set from pleasure dome, and run it on MAMEUIFX .151 Almost all games run flawlessly when i run them in DirectDraw mode instead of Direct3d. Again, thanks so much! Can't wait to set it up w/ hyperspin.
