    The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

    We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Greetings to all hyperspin lovers, I have a question regarding the videos that are presented in hyperspin, a few years ago I changed several of the main menu topics to a unified video format as a topic for each system, and I have noticed that hyperspin It applies a kind of smoothing to the videos, generating a loss of sharpness. I imagine that in the past this helped in videos that were of low quality, making them look less pixelated, but now with 1080p videos this does not make much sense and causes a loss of quality. I have already tried all possible configurations in hyperhq and have not been successful, coming to the conclusion that perhaps it is something configured in the hyperspin code, so it is not possible for users to modify it. Anyway, I leave this question in case anyone has noticed or wondered about this.

I leave you a screenshot with the comparison of a video played with VLC and the other with hyperspin so you can see the loss of sharpness.

It looks like smoothing was added in 1.4.16 (see the release notes in the link below). I don't know if it can be disabled.

Thanks for answering. According to what I was seeing, the integration of smoothing in videos is so that their playback is smoother and not jerky, but not to soften or blur the image itself.

The only smoothing option I see in Hyperspin is under "settings"  It affects images, but not sure about videos.

Settings.ini

[Optimizer]
CPU_Priority=normal
Quality=HIGH
Image_Smoothing=true

Hello, thanks for answering. I also tried those options and it only affects images, but not videos. I think it has to do with the player that uses hyperspin, but that is another topic, I think we just have to wait until a new update jsjs. I have been testing other frontends such as Attract-mode and Hyperspin attraction 2 that imitate hyperspin quite well, which do not have these problems, plus they are better optimized and everything works more fluidly, But the truth is that I'm not convinced at all by their distribution of folders for emulators, ROMs and media, it seems chaotic to me, besides the fact that there is no program like Hypertheme that allows you to create themes easily and quickly. In conclusion, the creators of hyperspin are geniuses, they thought everything very well, managing to create this marvel.

Sorry if there is anything misspelled since I have used a translator since my English is quite basic.

Hello again, I found a way to play the videos we use as unified themes in their original quality, without that blurring or smoothing that makes them lose quality. To achieve this, I copied the videos I use as themes to the Override Transitions folder in the main menu and simply changed the extension from mp4 to flv. I also checked the option "themes wait for special" in the optimizer section of HyperHQ. The video plays once since it's set as an Override Transition, but it's not possible to leave it that way because the theme’s background is lost, as it shows up after the Override Transition ends. Additionally, in the default themes for each system, only the first video is visible, and when switching to another game, the video no longer appears. Even so, it helped me test that the video can be played in its original quality there must be some option in the player that causes the quality loss.
