Renaming GameBase 64 roms

Hi everybody,

Last night I managed to get the Commodore 64 GameBase collection GBC_v11 up and running via Hyperlaunch and GBLauncher. It was quite the task for me (had to write my first custom .ahk file), but it is working!

However, the roms I have are named like they came in the GBC_v11 and I suppose that wont match with the emumovies naming convention. The rom names in the HyperList Commodore 64 xml do not match.

So how do I rename those roms now?

I have one xml that was created via exporting from GameBase and running through RomLister. It contains the rom names and game names.

The xml from HyperList contains the game names and the correct rom names.

Can anybody here help me out with this?

I would like to rename the roms so that they match the rom naming convention in the HpyerList xml file, and I hope that with HyperSync importing movies and artwork will be a no-brainer then.

Thanks a lot guys!

Thanks for your reply!

I have already tries using Don's Hypertools, but I do not seem to understand how I could use them to solve my problems.

Could you provide more details please?

Sadly, this is not working. I'll try to explain it in a little more detail.

My roms are named pretty awkward, the GameBase-created .xml file contains entries like this:

<

game name="1942_00016_02">
	<description>1942</description>
	<cloneof></cloneof>
	<manufacturer>Elite/Hit-Pak</manufacturer>
	<year>1986</year>
	<genre>Shoot'em Up - V-Scrolling</genre>
</game>

However, the HyperList Commodore 64 xml file looks like this:

<game name="1942 (1986)(Elite)[cr BAM][t BAM]" index="" image="">
	<description>1942</description>
	<cloneof></cloneof>
	<crc></crc>
	<manufacturer>Elite</manufacturer>
	<year>1986</year>
	<genre>Shooter</genre>
	<rating>HSRS - PG (Parental Guidance)</rating>
	<enabled>Yes</enabled>
</game>

So while the names of the game match most of the time (in this cas: "1942"), one xml file contains the name of the rom as it is named now (1942_00016_02), the other contains the name that it should have (1942 (1986)(Elite)[cr BAM][t BAM]).

In this case you could maybe find a match, but for other games the rom names I have now are so cryptic that you have no chance to identify them by the game name (which is what Don's renaming tool would do).

There is also no CRC information in any of the files, so I am out of luck there too.

Is there any way that I can rename my roms by combining the xml files?

If not, I'd greatly appreaciate a hint how to make Commodore 64 happen in Hyperpsin. There's a lot of childhood memory in there...

I share your passion for c64. I also attempted this. Ran into disk swapping issues, naming issues. The next xml will have 5000 games I hear so I chose to wait. I added a few manually like river raid. Good luck.

Well, if that's the only way I'll also have to go the manual route. This is probably OK as long as the game list isn't too long. I am just afraid that I don't remember all the names of the games I played back in the day.
