I built my first cabinet using hyperspin like a decade ago (still going strong, but gave it to a friend)...

I decided it was about time I build Cabinet V2.0... fixing the various "bugs" from 1.0...

the biggest "bug" was windows, so this time that wont be an issue, 100% no Microsoft or windows involved.... Linux just works so much better as standalone "devices"

so far I have looked at retroarch, groovy, and BATOCERA... reto and Bato are both intriguing, but I am just not seeing them as a cabinet, maybe a cool "super console" at some point, but not really what I am looking for right now....

really all I want is MAME + a Hyperspin like front end, I am not looking to have a billion consoles, just arcade only... (it is just a personal nostalgia thing)

anyone able to recommend anything?

I am guessing the hyperspin dev dude is still a hard "no" on linux? (actually, it looks like there is whole whole dev team now, congrats... but I am guessing still a no to linux?)

Back in the day, the NVIDIA shield was my hardware of choice.   The Hyperspin app is being updated soon and it's pretty great now.   If you can find a cheap used Shield TV (pro, not the tube), it's still pretty good (I still use mine) with HDMI/LCD panel.   REALLY hard to pay for a new one now that it's 10yrs old.   For my older CRT-cabinet, I need Windows.

Great news! Still using Nvidia Shield. Will the updated Shield version have support for more standalone emulators? Many of them does not work anymore.

Well.... in a few weeks I will recommend Hyperspin.  Public launch is upcoming and a linux version is already built 😉 *spoilers* would you be interested in being a tester?
