fr0stbyt3 Posted Monday at 01:47 PM Posted Monday at 01:47 PM Hey everyone! It’s been a busy stretch lately, and we’ve been putting a lot of work into making HyperSpin faster, smoother, and a lot more flexible to use day to day. This update pulls together some of the biggest changes we’ve been working on, including faster browsing, Hybrid Mode 2, smarter Steam importing, stronger save state tools, HyperOverlay, and a long list of fixes and quality-of-life improvements across the board. Let’s dive in! Faster Browsing, Hybrid Mode 2, and Better Performance We’ve also done a lot of work on the feel of browsing and launching, especially for bigger libraries and cabinet-style setups. Better performance, startup and large-library browsing both got major optimization work so everything feels faster and more responsive Hybrid Mode 2, there is now a second hybrid-style browsing mode for users who want a more banner-driven library view Better banner fitting and smoother resizing, follow-up work made Hybrid Mode 2 cleaner on screen and improved how the game size slider feels while resizing large views You can now collapse the sidebar for a wider view in all view modes. Better large-library handling, grid layout and virtual scrolling improvements make browsing big collections feel more responsive Spotlight search, finding games and systems is much quicker now with a controller-friendly search flow Better list and context menu workflows, list view, right-click actions, and direct edit flows have all been cleaned up 2026-04-20 10-35-59.mp4 Smarter Steam Imports, Achievements, and Game Details Steam has been a huge focus lately, and it keeps getting better. Smarter Steam imports, HyperSpin now does a better job combining local installs, owned games, family-shared libraries, and manual App ID or Steam URL imports Better import workflow, games can show up sooner while downloads and follow-up work continue more cleanly in the background Easier Steam setup, signing in and managing the connection is simpler than it used to be Better achievements, Steam games now have richer achievement handling and more graceful fallback behavior when the normal lookup path is unavailable Better trailers and media, Steam trailers, backgrounds, and related media now resolve more cleanly and fit the override flow better Better matching and details, HyperSpin does a better job filling in game information and giving you more useful recovery paths when something does not match cleanly HyperOverlay - Coming soon One of the biggest additions in this stretch has been HyperOverlay. If you’ve ever launched a game and stared at a black screen while everything loads, this is the kind of thing that makes HyperSpin feel much more complete. It also covers the pause-screen work we’ve been showing off, so think of that as part of the same bigger push, not a separate feature. This should be released in the coming days. Loading screens, game launches feel smoother with a proper transition instead of a dead black screen Pause menus, you can bring up an in-game pause menu with your controller instead of fumbling around outside the game Game end screens, exits feel more intentional instead of just dropping you back out abruptly Save state integration, save state tools tie into the overlay flow much more naturally Pause screen improvements, we’re continuing to refine the pause flow with a cleaner horizontal layout, simpler presentation, and better save state navigation Cabinet-Friendly Quality-of-Life Improvements A lot of smaller changes landed too, but they add up fast if you use HyperSpin every day. Advanced controller mapping, modifier key support gives cabinets and custom control setups much more flexibility Always-on-top marquee support, dedicated marquee displays behave more like you expect on cabinet builds Better plugin flows, plugin setup, details, progress, and connected account handling are all smoother than they were before Better wheel visibility controls, you now get more control over which games show up per system Better marquee behavior and display handling across more setups More Control Over How Your Games Launch Another big win in this stretch has been giving you more control over setup and launch behavior without turning HyperSpin into a mess to manage. Per-game emulator settings, you can now override emulator options at the emulator, system, or game level instead of forcing everything into one global setup Save state management, HyperSpin now gives you a much better way to browse, launch, and manage save states across supported emulators Pre-launch and post-launch commands, you can now run custom commands before or after launching games for things like scripts, controller profiles, lighting, and other cabinet-specific setup Desktop shortcuts and deep linking, you can launch games more directly without jumping through as many hoops inside HyperSpin first Fixes & Stability Bug Fixes (click to expand) Better theme matching and recovery when names do not line up cleanly Better unmatched import diagnostics and more useful follow-up suggestions Better background and fallback handling during media downloads and refreshes Better system importing, the import flow is faster, clearer, and more resilient when something doesn’t go perfectly the first time Multi-disk support, disc-based games are handled more cleanly with automatic playlist generation ROM path migration, moving game folders is a lot less painful now thanks to better path update handling Better stability around live updates, downloads, startup flows, and selection state restoration Better cleanup across game details, plugin pages, system views, and media handling throughout the app A huge thank you to everyone who’s been testing, reporting bugs, and helping us keep pushing this forward. A lot has changed lately, and a lot of those improvements came directly from what you all have been telling us. Keep the bug reports coming, and if you get a chance to try HyperOverlay, the newer Steam import flow, Hybrid Mode 2, or the media audit tools, we’d love to hear how they work with your setup. Stay awesome, -fr0stbyt3 1 1
