paddyboy Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I have a full write up on how to do this from a new installation of windows 7 x64 pro with all the needed files to completely shell to hyperspin,no windows logo, boot animation or welcome screen but waiting to finish a few things on my hyperspin build first. The welcome screen is the biggest pain in the arse but once you have the correct stuff in stalled first it is an easy method of replacing a few files and running a few things before rebooting and having no windows to think about.I am using xbmc as boot and hyperspin launching from xbmc, great for the tv with a big web browser and full media playback as well as all the games you could ever want to play. HERE IS A VID I hope you all don't think i am showing off,i give my wee brother updates on how i am getting on with hyperspin and sometimes make a vid when i have completed quite a lot on it so he can see what i keep going on about to him on the phone.
whiLd Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Added 3 new links to the original post. Remove Microsoft Logo at bottom of Welcome Screen Remove/Modify Welcome Txt 2 Boot Animations for download First 2 links provided by Shaolin. The 3rd link provided by Baglio.
bailey Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Awesome! Going to do the new stuff shortly. I used your tutorial for the other stuff.. works awesome.
bailey Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Change Boot Animation: Windows 7 Boot Updater this was working perfectly before for me.. then all of a sudden stopped working .. a few times when I used instant sheller for changing mouse icon to dot .. it would reset the boot animation.. but id just change it back to the one I want and it would work but now it no matter what I do with Windows 7 Boot Updater something is instantly changing it back to the windows stuff. I can hit Apply.. close it.. and reopen it.. and it loads the Windows stuff. Any ideas?
Vexatious Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Excellent, thanks for the write-up. Will help me massively

Restart your PC. See if that works. If it does, then you can manually change your mouse cursor to the black dot manually in the Windows Control Panel. (Mouse Options) If it doesn't work: Try a Windows restore point to a time where the bout animation worked. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

Roadrunner Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 A couple of questions on this: What I'm looking for is a way to use this cabinet without any mouse or keyboard at all. I'd like to hit a power switch and go straight into HS. Your solution seems to accomplish this (though I havent' tried it yet) however... I'm wondering how you manage shutting down the computer. You said above that you can exit HS and then go into task manager to start windows. Okay, that's cool. I would've thought though that once you exit HS, your computer would shut down. If that's not the case then how do you shut down the computer? Do you just hit the power switch? Does it matter if it doesn't shut down properly since Windows isnt' running? Also, I saw a Mame graphic that people used with Bootskin. Could this be used as a boot up graphic in this solution?I love the skin that was posted here. The blue graphic part way down just looks great. Could I use this with your solution? http://www.wincustomize.com/explore/bootskins_xp/7965/ This one actually looks better but its not animated: http://www.wincustomize.com/explore/bootskins_xp/7982
Roadrunner Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Okay, that's cool. If I use that though, how do I exit into windows if I want to load MP3s, games, updates etc... Does Hyperspin have to keep running in the background when I do this? How do you get around that? Also, in regards to the boot graphics... can I use those graphics? If so, how do I get the animation to work?
whiLd Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 This is all explained in the first post. Close HS like you normally would. Esc or a mapped button. Ctrl+Alt+Del Open task manager File New task type "explorer" (without the quotes) Hit enter Welcome to windows Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
whiLd Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Also, in regards to the boot graphics... can I use those graphics? If so, how do I get the animation to work? This is also explained in the first post. I have a link that takes you to an external tutorial. Follow the tutorial and it will work just fine. There are different animation programs that you can use. The animation needs to be saved in a series of .png files if I recall correctly. There are also already created animations out there for use. Hope this helps! Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Roadrunner Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 This is all explained in the first post.Close HS like you normally would. Esc or a mapped button. Once I do this though, wouldn't the system shut down on me before I could do anything else? Ctrl+Alt+Del Open task manager File New task type "explorer" (without the quotes) Hit enter Welcome to windows Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk This seems straightforward enough if the CTRL-ALT-Delete can be done before it shuts down. I'm guessing there's enough time to do this after Exit then? Also, does all of this work for 64 bit? Do I need to do anything differently if it is 64 bit? Thanks for your help.
whiLd Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 If your HS is setup to shut down the computer on exit, you will not be able to exit to windows after choosing to shut down HS. You can either Ctrl+Alt+Del and start the explorer task without closing HS. This will leave HS running in the background while you are in windows. Or make HS close on shut exit, not shutting down the computer. Then just shut down the computer from the start menu. Or hold the power button. (not recommended) Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
whiLd Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Oh yeah. My tutorial is for 64 bit. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

This will leave HS running in the background while you are in windows. I'm guessing this would be my only option as I want to be able to turn on and off the cabinet without a mouse or keyboard. On the occassions that I do want to go into windows, I guess I'll just have to have HS on in the background.
Roadrunner Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I used Boot Updater to change the screen. I found it to be a bit hard to use. I had an image that I wanted to use as the background and I had to keep manually shrinking it to get it to fit. I found out that once you take a large background option you no longer are able to put in text. Also, I thought that you could download animated gifs for this but I guess not. This is too bad because I was kind of hoping to be able to put in an animated pac-man as the progress bar and having "loading under it" Anyways, I downloaded a pre-made Hyperspin skin and have a big Mame background over top so it doesn't look too bad. Thanks for that tip.

SubZero Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Nice job dude! great torturial, and a good explination.
Roadrunner Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hey, Not sure how I can post pics on this. I restarted my computer and then tried to hit "print screen" but I couldn't paste it into anything. I also tried to use the preview in Updater but unfortunately it doesn't show the background picture in there, only the HS animation. Any way that I can take a picture from the restart? I'll be happy to do it for you if you tell me how.
whiLd Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Use your phone or digital camera. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Roadrunner Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Here it is. I realized that if the "complete background" was going to hide my text... I could just add my own in the bitmap, so that's what I did. The "hyperspin logo" is the animated one that I got from Deviant art. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/843/bootscreenl.jpg/ The screen really needs a Pac-man animation on it... I've got an animated .gif but I can't figure out how to do it with updater.
whiLd Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Looks good. "Welcome to the machine" reminds me of Pink Floyd. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
