djsim Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 A big hello from Ireland to all the Hyperpin experts, I hope to find you well. This is my first post so go a bit easy. I have a few general questions that I am hoping you can help me out please. I did have a look around before I posted this, as I didn't want to waste your time if these were answered already but I couldn't find them. (probably my bad) 1) Is there a way to create a new XML based on available roms? For example, I have backed up some of my Saturn games discs to ISO's based on the SSF compatibility chart, the default XML files has 303 roms, I only need \ want 25 to display on the wheel. What is the easiest way to achieve this? 2) What is the best tool to rename roms against the XML file, if any? When I backup my Saturn discs, the names dont match. Any quick way of doing this? 3) Lets say Bomberman doesn't work for one version of a emulator but it does with an older version, is there a way to set-up an "alternative in hyperspin to load that particular ROM with the older version? 4) General question about artwork \ themes as I haven't gone near these yet. I presume that the names of the artwork, vids have to match the names of the ROMS \ XML file? Many thanks for helping me out... I spent at least 10 hours so far, so I am hoping there are tools \ scripts out there that will help me for my next system MAME omg
gigapig Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Welcome to the forum DJSim. Good to see you didn't start with an easy system. To answer your questions. 1, Yes try . Or you could use the wheel filters in HyperHQ to filter by the Roms you have.2, Not really a quick way (depends on how many and how badly named they are) try Hypertools, use the link from the above video to get it. 3, Yes you can use alternate emulators, you need to set that up in HLHQ. I think the only version of Bomberman that works is the European version which I run on the latest version SSF_012_beta_R4. 4, Correct. Good luck
djsim Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Ah thanks gigapig, many thanks for your help. I normally dive head first into something :-) Actually as matter of interest, which system should I go for next (the easiest one) ?
Emu54 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 snes, nes, megadrive, Sega Master System, mame i say there easy Sega Saturn took me some time.
gigapig Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Easy would be any Rom based emulators like SNES/Genesis etc, if you want harder go for Sammy Atomis wave/Sega Naomi or have a go with RetroArch which you can use with many systems. Oh course you can use my guides if you get stuck on any or ghutchs or rfancellas guides. Now I've mentioned Ron he has some great guides for Amiga/C64 and Daphne which can be tricky.
djsim Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 Thanks lads for your help, appreciate it a lot. I know you must get tired of answering the same questions all of the time but I did look before I posted, honest :-) I will check out your videos also Gigapig...
Emu54 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Gigapig vids sure helped me my set up is just about done 8 systems to do only took 4 months
djsim Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 3) Lets say Bomberman doesn't work for one version of a emulator but it does with an older version, is there a way to set-up an "alternative in hyperspin to load that particular ROM with the older version? Lads, I am having a little trouble on this one. Where do I setup this. When I go to HSHQ and under the games section, on the alternate emulators I have the option to select the game and select the emulator, however, these are pre-configured, is there any way to edit the list to include an earlier version of SSF? Thanks
JoeC3109 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Go to the emulators tab for Sega Saturn. There should be a plus sign where you can add another version of SSF and name it as such. Save it, and then check the games tab where you were before. It should now have the newly added emu version.
JoeC3109 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I should've mentioned, it's found in HyperlaunchHQ
gigapig Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 You need to setup an alternate Emu. Click the system on the left then the emulators tab, click the green + button and then fill in the window with the new details and click the save button. I called mine SSF2, but maybe SSF R3 would be better. Next up click the games tab then the alternate emulators tab. Click the green + again and fill in the details and click the save button. The archive I have for Saturn Bomberman work with both R3 & R4. Edit: Joe beat me to it.
djsim Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Thanks JOEC3109, I will check this out when I get home from work. Out of curiosity, from your experience, what is the better emulator, SSF or Yabause.
JoeC3109 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 SSF, without a doubt. You'll be able to play almost every Saturn game with some version of SSF.
djsim Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Thanks lads, solve one issue, another one occurs...In the end, it was too much to rename all of the roms \ artwork, so I went ahead and signed up and used Hypersync (member of emu movies also) Issue is, I used the sync to download the videos, which it did, all names match up, however, the only video that is displaying is the default Virtua Cop. The other 30 or odd aren't...please help.....what silly thing am I doing now :-)
gigapig Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 If you only have a default theme for that system then only the first video will play unless you go into HyperHQ and for that system check "reload backgrounds". I recommend doing that every time you set up a new system. If it's not that it must be a naming issue?
djsim Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Hey man, I just tried that, no luck. Obviously I am doing something really stupid here..and I am pulling what little hair I have left :-) The names are correct as I downloaded them via hypersnic cloud.. I must have missed a step somewhere. I know the path is good as its playing the default vid \ theme. The only thing I see is that in HQ, the video path states the file format. flv, do you need to change that at all maybe?
gigapig Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Here is the setting I meant, you'll also need the "default" theme in the \Media\Sega Saturn\Themes and it needs to be in zip format. You could download a theme from the unified mega themes on the ftp also. /Upload Here/Unified Mega Theme/Themes That video path in HyperHQ is irrelevant so leave it blank, everything else should have been downloaded to the correct folders if you've setup Hypersync correctly. Otherwise I think it's down to naming.
djsim Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 OMG..... Do you know what I had done :-) I didn't have the theme called default.zip, mine was called something else....dough.... 2 more questions and thats it, wont ask anymore: 1) Any way to speed up loading the video snaps, when I select a game from wheel, I see the Hyperspin logo, then video loads, talking about a 2-3 secs delay, anything that can de done about that? 2) The Virtua Cop theme is blocking the wheel, anyway of bringing the wheel to the foreground? Thanks gigapig and all...once I get it right for one, I will be much easier for the remaining....

You'll have to play with the optimiser in HHQ but it will also depend on the PC, having Hyperspin on an SSD can also help. 2) The Virtua Cop theme is blocking the wheel, anyway of bringing the wheel to the foreground? I think that issue is down to however created that theme, they haven't put the layers in correctly, so unless anyone has any other idea's you'll have to use another theme or live with it?
djsim Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Thanks Pal, no worries, Christ, if its that slow on my decent home PC, the dual core I am going to be transferring it on to will be 4 times worse, I will have to put more RAM into it. Can I ask what Saturn Theme you are running? Would it be possible to give me a link to it please? Many Thanks.

I probably have just the default from here on the ftp. /Upload Here/Unified Mega Theme/Themes/16x9 HD - Static/Sega Saturn
