The HyperSpin 2 beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

I have too much awesome. It has become a chore to scroll through all of that awesome, so I sort of want to do a second install of hyperspin using bare bones art and themes, etc, for personal use (I play snes and 64 more than anything else) and keep my grand install for continued dazzling of the uninitiated and for times when I just want to scroll. Anyway, I'll probably start this weekend, but I'm concerned that these two installs might conflict in ways? I'll certainly be using the same emulators and the same roms, but if I have two Hyperspin installs on the same drive, will changing Hyperlaunch settings in one mess with the settings of the other, for example? Is there any other way these two installs might conflict, besides emulator settings?

Thanks for the thoughts,

Walter

Yes, this is possible and can be very versatile. As proof of concept in anticipation of building a bartop and having it connected to my TV, I've followed Zerojay's "faking subwheels" method to set up multiple installs of HyperSpin in separate folders, each with their own instance of HyperLaunch, as follows:

H:\HyperSpin = basic setup running in 1440x1080 windowed mode with only two items in the wheel, called Arcade and Home. Each points to another copy of HyperSpin.

H:\HyperSpin Arcade = also 1440x1080 windowed, with 4:3 themes for arcade systems to be played on the bartop.

H:\HyperSpin Home = 1920x1080 windowed with widescreen Unified Mega Theme for various consoles to be played on the TV.

Both Arcade and Home automatically re-load the basic setup when exited.

The HyperHQ and HLHQ settings are entirely separate for each instance. Keeping the media up to date with HyperSync is a pain in the neck, but I gather HyperBase Live will take care of that.

I saw that post in passing a while ago. How are the transitions from one instance of HS to the other? That actually sounds perfect, as I get what I want AND can access both (or more) installs via Hyperspin itself. Will try!

It works really well, taking about 2 seconds to switch from one HS to another - and that's on a normal hard drive so will be quicker on an SSD. Make sure you set WinState to Hidden in HyperHQ > Wheel Settings > Emulator tab for each instance, to avoid seeing the AHK executables popping up. As I'm doing this on my normal PC I haven't hidden the mouse pointer or task bar properly, but if you do those as well it will be pretty much seamless.
