Emulators Randomly Stop Loading

When in using Hyperspin for an extended period of time my emulators will stop loading altogether and the problem won't fix until I restart my computer. I've found that this Is due to Hyperlaunch not properly closing on emulator exits so I manually close it but the problem persists until restart. This happened before I changed which buttons close emulators through controls of HyperlaunchHQ which are Start + Select on any controller being used. So I'm stuck, any suggestions on why this is happening?

Yeah, I close the correct process usually it doesn't help anything until I restart my computer. Its a real inconvenience when I have friends over that have no clue why I have to restart my computer in the middle of playing games haha

This is still continuing to happened everytime I use hyperspin, it seems that I have a harder time getting the emulator to begin to run through the FE. It's been taking 3-4 restarts before I get my emulators to run for a little bit. Any thoughts? About to turn to the hyperspin gods for help haha

*Edit: I should probably check through my logs to see what the hangup first is, I will report back if i solve the problem or get bogged down even more.

The ONLY reason I can think of that something won't launch is when there is a process open (either the emu, and it won't let you run two instances, or the hyperlaunch process.) Makes no sense to have to restart your computer multiple times to get it to launch.

But yes, let us know your set up (are you using hyperlaunch, which version etc) and post your logs.

Ok I restarted my computer, had emulators working again and also had it break on me again so I could get these logs.

I'm using Hyperlaunch V 3.1.0

Everytime my hyperlaunch fails to load emulators, I first open up processes to see if the emulator is still running while I ran the exit command on my gamepad in hyperspin. If that checks out, I move onto the fact that Hyperlaunch is still running in my processes everytime and I end the process. I try to run another emulator through hyperspin and it never fixes the problem until I restart my computer, and even then it has taken up to 4 times restarting to fix this problem... :facepalm: I have also tried closing the hyperlaunch process through HyperlaunchHQ on the last tab and it also is no help. Let me know if you need more information, I have nothing to do but fix this problem for the next 5 hours.

*EDIT* I restarted my computer when I had no emulators able to load, got SNES able to load first try because of restart and decided to check the logs and saw an odd error. An error on a working attempt of hyperspin loading emulators. I'll post these logs I just got in case they could help.

From watching my Hyperlaunch process very closely I have almost pinpointed when it goes wrong. I just had an instance of Hyperlaunch "Opening" and running when I tried to run a rom on SNES, the emulator never opened and Hyperspin just sat there. I checked to see if Snes9x was running and it wasn't. Closed the process for Hyperlaunch and still can't load games until I restart my computer like every other time. Not sure how I can be running hyperlaunch without it opening up an emulator. It is definitely the root of my problem though, still cant find a solution for it.

Ok lets do a reset here. Start from the beginning, and forget about Hyperspin for now.

Do you have fade and bezels enabled which could be hiding a problem? What are your settings in HyperlaunchHQ, and can you launch games through HyperlaunchHQ? Is this your first set up, or did you have it working at some point? What changed, etc etc.

Also, stop restarting your computer so much. This should not require a restart, and I'm no guru, but I don't think that's good for it.

Fade and Bezels are both turned off for all systems.

I recently went through HyperlaunchHQ and cleared most settings to default to check if it was something I set and it was not.

I can launch games through HyperlaunchHQ normally, until something causes the mess up and then I can't launch games through it.

I did have this setup working at some point where this problem did not occur, it's difficult to remember when this started. Since this problem has only happened when trying to run games on SNES (Snes9X) and NES (Was Nestopia, changed to FCEUX trying to fix this) I feel that it might be caused by the emulators themselves. Possibly due to an incorrect version being ran against what the module accepts as a working version.

So, it reiterate the problem. Hyperlaunch goes from: Not running -> Running while either of the two emulators do NOT load (at all) properly which begins the problem of no other emulator loading. When the two emulators are "running" as hyperlaunch states, there are no processes to close for the emulators and closing the process of hyperlaunch does not yield and results.

Let me know if you need more specific information on HLHQ settings.

Dude I'm sorry. I've been trying to wrap my head around this, and I got nothing. The only process that would cause ALL emulators not to start is the hyperlaunch.exe process. Even having a version of snes9x, for example, running shouldn't stop you from being able to use mame. So here's a few things:

Check in HyperHQ that executable is indeed set to Hyperlaunch and not Normal. (Just to be sure, do this for all systems)

I'm correct in assuming only those two emulators will start this chain reaction? ie you can run mame as many times as you want and it'll never lock up the other emulators?

To test the above hypothesis: next time it locks up, try running various emulators stand alone and post results.

Are you SURE SURE that hyperlaunch.exe is closing? (If it isn't, it could be a version problem or even what you have set up as your exit key) Also note that for me at least the hyperlaunch process isn't called hyperlaunch exe, I can't remember exactly what it is for me, its something like Your favorite Front End Companion so double and triple check that this is closed.

Lastly, try an emulator that handles multiple systems including snes, I recommend retroarch, but bizhawk and mednafen and mess are options. If that works, you know the problem is with snes9x.

I've done some testing with what you replied. All HyperHQ settings for the wheels are set to Hyperlaunch and not Normal. I ran a lot of emulators last night in sequence and ill show what I found.

NES - Good

N64 - Good

GBA - Good

Gameboy - Good

Gameboy Color - Good

Gamecube - Good

Wii - Good

Sega 32X - Good

Dreamcast - Good

Genesis - Good

PS1 and PS2 - Good

PSP - Good

MAME - Good

(All emulators were closed properly using a controller with exit keys of Select + Start set through HyperlaunchHQ)

This was all of my emulators and they all worked, I do have 7 manufacturer MAME sets as well which I didn't have time to test but since they run off of Mame I was guessing they would work too. While testing the PS1 I did have 3 exceptions throughout that said I needed to check that the emulator version was correct and that fade was turned off. It didn't break Hyperlaunch, it only took 30 seconds or so to run another game. It also happened one additional time when I switched to the first PS2 game to test.

So today, I turned on my computer and tried to load up any emulator and surprisingly nothing worked, it was almost flawless last night but this morning I get nothing.

When the system breaks, Hyperlaunch.exe doesn't close properly because the emulator never starts. So it can't close properly with any of the exit keys. Even the exit script keys closing the correct process doesn't fix it. My exit keys are Start + Select buttons across 9 controllers that I use. I also kept ~Esc, not sure what the tilda (~) is for but I used them before each button press so it looks like this, ~4joy9&~4joy10. I've done testing using only my keyboard with the original exit key of ~Esc and it still breaks Hyperlaunch but maybe my Select + Start keys are messing something up, idk.

I think i'll review my emulators and see what versions the modules run on and switch whatever isn't. I've put so much work into my hyperspin, really hoping this problem can be fixed so I can sleep better at night :P

*EDIT* You've GOT to be kidding me. I feel so frustrated, angry, and relieved all at once. I went into HyperlaunchHQ and deleted ALL my exit keys and set ~Esc to be the only remaining exit key. While my Hyperlaunch was failing to run for the last 30 minutes, I closed out of the process one more time and it... worked. For some odd reason my mouse is invisible, but other than that i'll report back to see if everything works properly. I only just now remember what I changed last before the whole system broke haha wow.

*EDIT2* It works flawlessly, i'm shocked right now. I can't thank you enough, I've had this problem for 3 weeks now and it's very frustrating when friends are over and my emulators stop working haha. Again, holy crap, thank you.
