methos01 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Hi everyone Getting myself all turnaround so hopefully this question make sense. I've been trying to figure why only 3000 games are listed out of the 9000 in my mame ROM set. I know the names have to match the XML in the database. I assumed that was the problem and it still could be but there are several games listed in my set that don't appear to be in the XML file. One example is tekken4 that's how it's spelled in the mame rom directory and a CHD file. I don't see it in the XML or anything related to it which makes me think it's just not there. Any thoughts or advice on how to get my roms listed? Thanks
sportsfan949 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Take it from me, you dont want all 9000 listed. Many are clones, variations of the origional. Alot of them are works in progress. Many members have spent alot of time paring down the XML to only the working and good games. I get mine from the famous member "Jumpstyle" FTP. You can however create a custom xml, there are tools on the hyperspin site to filter out the junk and make a usable file.

Thanks for the reply I'm aware that many don't work. I don't want all the games listed and I planned to filter out after I got all after properly ported in. Many games I have work in mame64 but say they can't be found in Hyperspin. I was hoping others have ran into the scenario. Are you saying from your experience it's normal to only have a little over 3000 roms found after doing an audit? Thanks
sportsfan949 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I use the xml that filters the mature, mahjongg, and most clones. My XML file usually has 2700 - 3200 titles in it. based on the mame version and filtering options used. Your at a good number id say. The goal is to have the games work, be family friendly (graphically). You can put hundreds of clones on the wheel but they are just usually minor revisions of the game and the wheel images are likely the same. Just looks cluttered to me. Of course just my opinion.
cowbells Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I get mine from the famous member "Jumpstyle" FTP. Famous haha This is sound advice. Even easier, just go into HyperHQ, on the MAME wheel and only show either themes or wheels. I go with themes personally. Don't worry about not having all the MAME roms.
Fromlostdays Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 While you should certainly take the above advice, the short answer to your question is no. After downloading a set you should have 6-8 thousand matches, at least based on my experience. You may want to take this conversation to the gold forums. Walter:beerglass:
