The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Creating game lists and retroarch

hey everyone. It's been about 3 years (having two kids and finishing grad school) since I installed and set up Hyperspin on a custom arcade cabinet. A lot has changed since then. With the new and separate Hyperlaunch features I feel kind of lost trying to set everything back up again. I'm starting my HyperSpin setup from scratch since I bought a new computer for my arcade cab as this is a project to hopefully set up a system so my kids can experience the awesome 80's and 90's video games had growing up. I have a couple of questions:

1. To create a custom game lists for each emulator is Don's Tools still recommended. Since its no longer supported is there an alternative?

2. Hyperlaunch is all the rage. I can setup each of the consoles to use retroarch using the old HyperHQ with the retroarch parameters and it seems to work fine. Is there any drawbacks in not using hyperlaunch?

Thanks guys. Any help will be appreciated.

Hyperlaunch adds extra features like HyperPause, Fade and 7z extraction, if any of those features interest you. Personally I only use it for emulators that are difficult to launch with just command line parameters. And PC games. HyperLaunch makes launching PC games easier. For anything you can run through RetroArch or other command line friendly emulators, it's less complicated to just use HyperHQ.
