Mame artwork problem with bezels.

Hey I downloaded some artwork files from mr do's arcade and I'm having some issues. I dropped the files (zipped) into the artwork folder but when I boot the game the bezel shows up but with no game image. All I get is a white box where the game should show up.

mame version is 1.45, I got it from a friend and it's set up to save high scores/disable all nag screens. I used an updated version of mame (1.47) and it worked fine but the nag screens pop up every time even if I've booted the game before. This is for a custom arcade cabinet so I can't even pass the nag screen without a keyboard plugged in. That's why I'm trying to get it working with the older version.

I'm using hyperspin to boot the games.

Go into the game (via HS or MAME doesn't matter) and press TAB. Then go to video options and choose a different resolution. Voila, your artwork will appear.

BTW, if you're using widescreen, I created a generic bezel for MAME games for verticals without bezels. You can view it here and download it off the FTP. Here's the link:

In my opinion bezels are essential as they take up a lot of that space esp with a widescreen monitor.

The bezel stuff works fine. I meant the actual game wont appear on screen. The bezel shows up around the boarders (it's a 4:3 monitor) but where the game should be is just a white box. I can hear the game but no video. In video options (in the tab menu) I lets me mess with the aspect ratio and ect. but no resolution. If I turn the bezel off the game works fine.

I fixed the problem. My tab menu was also messed up. It was showing white blocks instead of letters. I fixed that by going to the mame cfg file and switched video to ddraw instead of d3d. It fixed both problems.

Hey I figured I'd bump this thread instead of creating a new one since my new problem is related to the bezels.

After getting the bezels working it seems that some games take a huge performance hit regardless of how old they are. It\s not like normal frameskipping either, it's more of a consistent stutter, some games do it more than others. For instance in donkey kong you will hear a slight stutter in the sound once in a while but it doesn't seem to effect the game as far as I can tell but with Dig Dug the game becomes unplayable. If I turn the bezels off everything returns to normal.

The computer I have in the cabinet can run games like Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike at full speed so it seems weird. I'm hoping it's just an issue with settings.

I'm going to bump this too since THAT is my exact problem right now as well. All my horizontal games run perfectly fine, but horizontal games stutter, look blurry, and don't play at full speed. I've tried several bezels and inis from people like NOSH and Alex and still can't get horizontal games to look and work correctly with bezels turned on. Any help?
