Hyperspin crashs in mame wheel on astroids but not on atari classics?

Anyone have a idea why on my Mame wheel if I goto astroids the screen goes black and I have to use task manager to close out hyperspin but if I goto atari classics which is using the same rom file and video its fine?

I've got a vague memory of there being a problem with the asteroids theme (and others) using an effect that caused HS to crash. Maybe try downloading a new copy of the theme?
